Not to discount the significance of what’s happening here (I’m living it and spent three days without power) but the news continuing to talk about Texans “freezing to death in their homes” is histrionics. It’s just not happening. All non-homeless deaths thus far are related to car accidents, house fires and an inability of EMS to traverse the roads to get to non-weather related health events. The ONLY people who have died related to the cold itself are several homeless people whose deaths have nothing to do with power being out.

Moreover, it’s virtually impossible for a human to freeze to death above 40 degrees unless they are wet. Freezing to death in your home, without wind and water playing a role, generally requires temps below freezing for a prolonged period of time. And outside of older homes with terrible insulation, your home temp hasn’t dropped below freezing.

There are not Texans freezing to death in their homes. It’s just not happening.

Average lows in Texas have been 10.8 degrees .....

If you are going to make chit up ....try a different yard stick.

When the Montreal Ice storm hit, over 35 Canadians froze to death in their homes. IN THEIR HOMES!

Quit making fiction up ...your rant is not worth the read...Definitely at the Uninformed level ...

He has a point. I've slept outside in some cold arse weather. You have to not have much common sense to freeze to death. Put on another jacket....

Outside, we’re talking about people in their homes.

A well insulated home will take nearly a week without power to drop below freezing at those temps.

Explain how much experience you have sleeping outside in sub 20 weather?

They're all dying from CO poisoning while trying not to freeze to death. Your statement f'ing stupid.

Dry a person could sit in the home practically naked at 40 degrees and not suffer hypothermia for a long time. How long I am not sure because no charts I have ever referenced go that warm. Add to that people with housing typically are not naked and the "survivability" is indefinite.

Whatever the amount that does, it will be way less than what died from cuomo sending sick people to nursing homes. Maybe Abbott will get a book deal and a shitload of awards.

People go without heat all the time, and live. It's more dangerous to be in a house without AC in the South than without heat in the North.

So much drama. I think 21 are dead nationwide from this cold snap, most in auto accidents. A couple fell through Ice, a couple from Carbon Monoxide.

More people will die from Chicago hitting 100 degrees than the South having a once in a century cold snap.

Natural gas used in home appliances and heating is almost entirely methane, not carbon monoxide. And there have been no methane explosions to my knowledge. CO poisoning has only accounted for 2 deaths and is due to people trying to hear their homes with grills, campfire stoves, BBQ pits, etc.

The people who are in trouble are the elderly, the ill, and the otherwise compromised.
My indoor plants froze, and my Coke cans not in the fridge have that “you left me in the freezer and forgot about me” look.
It got pretty cold inside.
Many people’s home medical equipment was shutoff, leading to problems.
Regardless, we need to take care of each other.
