So let me get this straight…we live in a country where teachers are underpaid and overworked. They have classrooms that are overcrowded. They often are in schools that are under-funded and are expected to buy materials for their own classrooms. But now the expectation is that these people should be armed and trained in an active shooter situation ??

Downvote away but some of you people have lost your damn minds. What could possibly go wrong.

Israel did that many times. It worked well enough though not every teacher is capable.

It’s an insane idea. Like putting a band-aid on a gashing wound. So much can go wrong.

Regardless of how it’s done, you take soft targets off the table, it changes things immensely.

Increase training obviously.

Have you seen these looney teachers? None of them need guns or should be trusted to defend kids

Tell me this.

In every single school shooting what is the common denominator?

If you said "gun free zone" you would be correct

How many school shootings happen in schools that aren't in gun free zones?

ZERO

Florida is on the verge of becoming the 15th state to arm teachers after Gov. Rick Scott signed an omnibus bill Friday allowing school staff to undergo law enforcement training to carry guns in the classroom.

Although the notion may seem radical, at least 14 states already arm teachers, according to a VICE News review of state laws and interviews with education department officials and school board associations around the country. Those states are Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, Idaho, Indiana, Missouri, Montana, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, and Washington.

Why are people who are otherwise trained or even licensed to carry a concealed firearm suddenly considered incompetent and not allowed to carry that firearm when they step onto school grounds?

Um there have been countless masa shootings in places other than schools.
Malls
Stores
Parades

How many mass shootings have happened recently in big bad Texas? Citizens with firearms did not really stop those now did they.

I believe the idea is that they CAN be armed and trained, not should. But then, you likely knew that.

It could turn out bad considering most teachers are liberals and liberals perform a lot of mass shootings .

The best thing states can do it let the money follow the kids to private schools where they can get a better education. Also could have better protection for the kids at school.

Eliminate the Gun Free Zone bs and allow people to protect themselves. These mentals shooting up innocents in Gun Free Zones are there because it is a Gun Free Zone.
