Unknown by many is the fact that there is a huge population of liberal douchebag hipster types in Birmingdump.

I do a lot of craft beer activities, (home brewing, brewfests, etc.) and there's a lot of young Wokesters in the craft beer biz.

Agreed. We are fighting the progressive, liberal, socialist communists who want to change this once great country.

Let's roll.

never heard of Lakeview.

Remember the brick school building next to the McDonald’s near Saint Vincent’s? Though serving Highland Park, that school was Lakeview Elementary.

As the picture post-card image you posted above indicates, the “lake” at Lakeview was once a much more substantial body of water than it is today. The name had fallen out of use once the “lake” was drained and the surrounding area became more commercialized — the school itself is now an advertising agency.

The Lakeview name became in vogue again after Lou’s Pub revived the area as a distinct entertainment and dining destination. Lakeview replaced 5 Points South as the fashionable nightspot for the beau monde for a time in the 1990s and early 2000s.

Now Avondale has replaced Lakeview as an entertainment district with the fashionable set. I’ve lived in Birmingham long enough to know these things go in cycles.

Nah. Downtown is where the fashionable set go now, with all the new restaurants and bars. Lakeview for the frat/bro community. Avondale is a hodgepodge.

That only underscores my point — it already is shifting. At one time, Morris Avenue was a nightclub destination. It now is the location of boutique law firms and damn good peanuts!

But hell, at least they won’t have far to go. I am astounded at the number of apartments that are being built downtown and in the old warehouse and railroad districts.

Regions Field and Railroad Park really started moving things north. The new stadium now as well.

The new development slated for the Carraway Hospital campus will only continue that trend. Norwood’s continued gentrification is only going to intensify.

And the tearing down of the projects off University.

Nugent should just play at The Nick instead of Avondale. That would be hilarious.

Well, depending on the time he took the stage, the Nuge might be vilified or welcomed as a hero.

I’ve noticed that since the Nick expanded it’s daytime hours, the after-work happy-hour crowd tends toward hard-hats looking for a cold one after a day of construction at the constant renovations/expansions occurring at St. Vincent’s or UAB.

Listen up you insufferable twit, I grew up in Forest Park: I don’t need a google map to illustrate where the former Central Bank campus is located.

The former Central Bank campus and the adjacent Piggly Wiggly shopping center are located on the periphery of the Lakeview District and the Highland Park, South Avondale and Forest Park neighborhoods.

The City of Birmingham indeed combines South Avondale and Forest Park as one of it’s 99 officially designated neighborhoods.

Forest Park-South Avondale: “Forest Park-South Avondale is a neighborhood in Birmingham's Red Mountain community, including all of Forest Park subdivision and the southern section of Avondale, surrounding Avondale Park.”
