Sorry, dudes, but your credibility is shot.

I voted libertarian in both 08 and 12.

I absolutely agree with you on this point.

So, you favor, say Elizabeth Warren? She's "left of center", too.

f Cruz were the nominee, a lot of folks like me who don't like Hillary would feel compelled to vote for her, but if Rand Paul were the nominee, we'd actually have a choice.

Is Cruz the only top contender that would push you to vote for Hillary? You would vote for Paul over HRC? What about Christie? Carson? Jeb Bush?

Because I vote for every single one of them over HRC, and that's despite the fact that I'm not crazy about Christie, Bush or (another one) Huntsman.

Based on this logic, folks who voted for McCain or Romney don't have the credibility to criticize a Democrat candidate. The bottom line is that Cruz has no crossover appeal, and while Paul is working hard to expand the GOP base, Cruz is working equally hard to shrink it.

Yes.

Perhaps.

Carson?

I haven't heard anything from him that would be a deal breaker for me, but I don't know a whole lot about him at this point.

Jeb Bush?

Perhaps.

The only issue that I would favor Hillary on is judges. If somehow, Ginsberg, Scalia and Kennedy were to all step down before 2016, the "perhapses" would become "yeses".

EDIT: Cruz wouldn't just rile up the GOP base, he'd rile up the Democratic base too. A couple of weeks ago, in a rare moment of candor, Al Sharpton admitted that he's afraid that if Paul were the nominee, the Democrats wouldn't be able to turn out the Black vote like they've been able to in recent elections.

Cruz comes off as a used-car-salesman slimebag to me.

Cruz was one of the top debaters in the U.S. at Harvard. Incredible skills at critical thinking. He doesn't strike me as a used car salesman. That would be someone like Tom Harken.

But don't you think that the same skills that makes a person a good debater would also make him/her a good used car salesman?

Very good question. I will go back to Marcus Tullius Cicero, arguably the greatest orator in history. Obviously, we don't have audio tapes but I've read the texts of his speeches. Totally amazing stuff.

Cicero wrote that the ability to orate is like a sword. And, like a sword it can be wielded for good or evil. To slay a bad man or to slay a good man.

The difference is called 'content.' Not presentation, but what is actually said. The vast majority of any audience hearing the spoken word are clueless as to content. I proved this in an experiment many years ago when I was in college.

I delivered a 10 minute speech to 30 fellow students. There was a lot of rising and falling action on the delivery. Most of it was uplifting emotional stuff but at the 9 minute mark I said 'and, we all know that pups should be killed.'

The students were asked to rate my oratory. I got 100% approval.

Me: "So, you think we should kill puppies?"
They were shocked: "What?!!!"

They were not listening to content. Just how the speech sounded and they grabbed on to the words they wanted to hear and left out the back ground details. It was great. Thanks for reminding me of that.

Its really more about the looks and general demeanor than the content.
