Someone suggested posting this on the rant but I’m thinking Poli board may have people who can help. Sounds like he’s been tweeting and calling the State Department and embassies — they’re working on their elected officials from home (Rhode Island I th I’m?).

They’re they’re visiting and have two small children with them. Honkus is originally from Baton Rouge.

Im just sharing to try to help.

I think he said he used to work there?? Not really sure and I have no idea who he is but I would hope that someone would help me if it was me.

Who knew this shite was going to break out? I “assume” that they checked travel advisories prior to going??

No intention of being nasty but the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few. Hopefully they can find a safe place to hole up and be looked after. Over there.

U.S. Plans to Evacuate Citizens From Epidemic-Stricken Chinese

quote:

The U.S. government is arranging a charter flight Sunday to evacuate its citizens and diplomats from the epidemic-stricken Chinese city of Wuhan to the U.S., a person familiar with the operation said.

quote:

Roughly 1,000 American citizens are thought to be in Wuhan, and the U.S. consulate there is reaching out to the ones it knows about to offer them a seat on the plane, the person familiar with the matter said.

quote:

The plane seats around 230 people, and will include diplomats from the U.S. consulate as well as Americans and their families. Those evacuated will be responsible for the cost, the person added.

Why on earth would anybody visit China during Chinese New Year?

I’ve been there many, many times. That is one time of year you don’t want to be anywhere near the place.

I’m fairly certain his wife is Asian, maybe Chinese...perhaps this was a family visit...having the very young children also seems to suggest that is the case.

Because Chinese New Year is awesome...if there isn’t a global pandemic. Also, they could be adopting.

Those two statements don’t support one another.

Wonder why they can’t send more planes? I’m not well versed in foreign things but isn’t it the job of the embassy to help Americans when in need?

In the late 80s/early 90s my cousin was in Kuwait working as an engineer (petroleum?) and he and other Americans sought refuge at the American embassy. They were at least safe although stranded for quite a long time.

Stay away from crowded places.

Wash hands frequently.

Only eat at reputable, sanitary establishments.

Get and wear one of those face mask thingies.
