Nathan Deal has introduced new tax code legislation today that would double the standard deduction for Georgia taxpayers for all filing statuses, effective Jan. 1, 2018. It would also reduce the income tax rate for individuals and businesses from 6 percent to 5.75 percent effective Jan. 1, 2019. Finally, the legislation includes a provision further reducing the tax rate to 5.5 percent, effective Jan. 1, 2020.

It will save taxpayers more than $5 billion over the next five years.

Let the record show that the focus of my snark was an OP that consisted of a single blind link and OP edited content thereafter

I hit enter before pasting. I caught the mistake.

Let the record show, that this data is based on 2012, prior to Governor Sloth Bell Edwards increasing the state sales tax by "1 cent", (an additional 1% point added for a total of 5%, most insincere people try to say a "1 cent" or "1%" increase, when it was actually a 25% increase to the state sales tax). This would put us closer to "middle" on sales tax and probably push us to #9 on that list.

Full disclosure, we would still be low on the list, but look at it honestly and tell us that you feel our taxes are going as far as the other states within 5 spots of us (and where we would more than likely fall)

2012:
Lower Ranked: Alaska, Wyoming, South Dakota, Tennessee
Higher Ranked: Texas, New Hampshire, Nevada, South Carolina, Oklahoma

Currently-ish:
Lower Ranked: Nevada, New Hampshire, Texas, Tennessee, South Dakota
Higher Ranked: South Carolina, Oklahoma, Mississippi (found one!), New Mexico, Montana

So people in both states pay the say percentage of income as a tax, and Texas is right and LA is wrong?

According to the report, tax burdens in the 2012 tax season were as low as 6.5% in Alaska and as high as 12.7% in New York.

Blows my mind that anyone would actually move there.

Not trying to say anything for or against the ranking or taxes paid, but you do realize that #5 in this ranking means 5th lowest taxes as a percentage of average income, right?

I agree that the decades of being a blue state put us in the position of frivolous spending and constantly being behind on budgeting (bad constitutions that protect pocket liners of the time will do that to you). But this particular list is saying that Louisiana has a low tax burden on its residents.

5th lowest taxes as a percentage

If not for our Dem government screwing all of us on oil revenue, we’d have a significantly lower rate.

And for what we get back, that rate is robbery.
