They contribute about 1.6% to the size of government.

Directly? Sure.

Is there even a way to calculate the cost of tariffs to consumers by way of inflated prices?

Tariffs aimed at protecting American industry from being undercut

Ironically many components of "american made" products are mfg in China, imported by small business that couldnt compete if it required using American made products.

Our own monetary policy has fricked the businessman, not China.

Tariffs are great if the country you are placing the tariff on taxes imports. Personally I think that the US government should do what Tom Clancy does in one of his books. Pass the Trade Reform Act from Debt of Honor which makes US laws and practices on imports of a country mirror the laws and practices of that country. That way trade is fair. I would prefer free & fair trade but I will gladly take take fair trade with extra costs instead of free trade and American industry and workers getting f**ked over without lube.

But see, here in the United States we like to dictate what other countries do without holding ourselves to the same standard of conduct.

Its the small business that will get squeezed, the Corporations have deep pockets.

And why do you think that is? Could it possibly be because the federal government has allowed those deep pocket corporations to close their US manufacturing plants, and build plants in China with the help of the Chicom government, and then allows them to import that Chicom manufactured product right back to the US? The small business not only has to compete with the deep pocket corporations, but the Chicom government with an unlimited supply of cheap labor. That's precisely how the small business gets destroyed.

If the tariffs are so bad for consumers, please explain while when trump was in office - we basically had no inflation and EVERYTHING was A LOT cheaper

Inflation is lagging. it doesnt show up instantaneously.

All it does is raise the cost of goods and services. Its pure protectionsim.

If we would build more factories in Mexico, you would have less immigration here.

Trump's strategy centered on shielding U.S. steel mills from foreign competition with a 25 percent tariff imposed in March 2018. He also promised to boost steel demand through major investments in roads, bridges and other infrastructure.

But higher steel prices resulting from the tariffs dented demand from the Michigan-based U.S. auto industry and other steel consumers. And the Trump administration has never followed through on an infrastructure plan.

It wasnt. Certain prices did increase.

It also hurt American producers as demand lowered because of higher prices.

Do you understand "putting tariffs on China" and "putting tariffs on all imports" are different things?

Well, some of us believe protecting the US, and some of us believe in protecting profits, even if means the ultimate destruction of this country.

Where does it stop? How many vital industries do we outsource to the Chicoms? How many more will it be in 20 years? Are you just banking on them taking ownership after you die, since they essentially already have control?

Yes, there a bad tariff schemes and really bad tariff schemes - like 10% on all imported goods, 100% on all foreign cars and 60% on all chinese goods...as Trump is promising and as contained in the article about Trump's tariff plan in the screenshot in the OP.

Thank you. At least one person, besides me, has read the article in the OP. I advise everyone to do the same.

Of course. But then every market is manipulated by every government. Most governments manipulate the markets to the advantage of their own country, and in the best interests of the people of their country, but that's not the way it works here. Here, the government manipulates the market to destroy our manufacturing base, thinking that when we need something, we will just push buttons on our computer and it will show up. That works fine until the place that makes all your shite decides they want to exert a little influence and pressure on you to do their bidding. Then if you don't bend over and take it, that shite you keep pressing the button for doesn't show up. And it just gets worse from there.

More hindrance makes it worse.

Tariffs are taxes on the consumer, and youre not going tax your way to prosperity.

China is failing without Trumps interventions.
