I read somewhere that the there was only 32 people from the US Embassy at the airport. I thought that seemed pretty wild.

Good grief....now reports are coming out that Turkey has agreed to help operate the airport.

From what I read the US tried to train Afghans for years to run the airport (ATC in particular) but they couldn't get enough people trained up to run it successfully and safely, so they had US contractors running ATC.

The article I read was from several years ago when the contractor bunkhouse at the airport was bombed, not sure if things changed after that or stayed the same until the US military took over a few weeks ago.

Point being, Afghanistan likely doesn't have the capability of actually running the airport so they will have to bring in someone to help, such as Turkey.

I love how somehow they dismiss that it is “only hundreds” of stranded Americans therefore that makes it OK

Everyone that has been in this thread called that from the very beginning it's sad.

At one time it was reported as being "just four" who stayed behind at the airport. I believe I read somewhere that more flew back in, including the acting Ambassador.

That may be partially true, but early last week our troops took over the airport from the Afghans. At that point Afghans were in complete operation of ATC. That was reported as a big deal that the US took over ATC duties.

Out of who will remain, this is true. Prior to this withdrawal, Afghans were operating the airport.

This is such incompetence by the executive branch and the military top brass as well as the state dept that they all need to preferably be lined up by the fence and family members take the first shots or they be hanged.

I was white hot with rage yesterday but have simmered down to just simmering rage along with grief for those families with dead or injured.

I also feel sorry for families with people who were abandoned over there to die at the hand of mental midgets who are still living in caves and wearing dresses.

This is criminal. And people still support this serial murderer.

As much as I think that journalists are as useful as tits on a chicken ( think tits on a boar pig confirm that daughters will have more mothering ability).

Getting all the journalists helps that they can control all the narrative over there so they can keep us from knowing true numbers slaughtered over there.

It definitely wasn't a good look to have our troops detaining foreign journalists and forcing them to leave before they could even get to the evac area of the airport.

I blame that on the big uppity ups rather than the troops since they have to blindly follow orders.

Shite flows downhill and all that.
