13 corpses in one block… Kabul has 4 million people living in it, safe assumption we’re in the five figures death toll already. Not to mention the levels of rape that is going on.

That was the thought, but apparently a Turkey evacuated earlier today/yesterday.
And I wouldn't call what the US has at the airport a base, so much at a few support facilities. Definitely not close to the scale of what would be needed for thousands of soldiers plus thousands of evacuees, even for a few days.
The real base was bagram about 40 miles out, which is the one we recently abandoned in the middle of the night.

If we really do a have a properly armed and equipped 6000 Marine detachment there surrounding the airport with air power from strips in the UAE, Qatar and aircraft carriers but flight time is long and ability to stay on base is not very long so airpower is basically come in, drop ordinance and return to base to refuel. Of course we have the capability of air refueling for the fighters, the bombers have plenty of range. If it’s just 650 Marines like was rumored somewhere I saw then they wouldn’t be able to hold off any sort coordinated offensive and would be strictly an emergency evacuation force including themselves. Regardless none of this matters because the Afghan Army are cowards who will not fight. They ran at first chance and left all the munitions and machines we left them to help them hold their country. We left them around 60 Blackhawk helicopters but the problem is a lot of their pilots can’t fly them and even worse they don’t have qualified mechanics to service them. They prefer the older Soviet helicopters like the MI-17 and the Hind over newer aircraft with new avionics. The Afghan Air Force does have around 30 close air support A-29 super tucano aircraft along with our UH-60’s, MD530 Cayuse’s as well as drones and several older Soviet aircraft that if they really wanted to fight they could put up more than a formidable defense but they don’t care I believe if it’s a democratic leader or the Taliban, Al-Queda or whoever runs their country. Hopefully the Biden administration is held to the fire for their terrible handling of this situation but as always the media will cover for them and somehow blame Trump as usual.
