FWIW, these people were not protesting. They were just gathering around an intersection watching a bunch of dudes in Fast n Furious cars do burnouts in the middle of an intersection. Looks like the cop was trying to chase down one of the dudes doing the burnouts and somebody got in his way.

Pretty simple solution don't run in front of cars/lay in the street for frick sake

My parents were pretty explicit - streets are where cars go, sidewalks are for walking on. Crosswalks are extra dangerous so look both ways at least twice.

It has served me well. The first time I really ignored that "Cross on the green, not in between", I was hit by a car. The second time was in New York City (right across from the former WTC, BTW) and it was too cold for me to care. I knew the risk and somehow made it inside the hotel. I haven't done it since.

I got hit by a car my senior year of high school, getting off a baseball practice bus.

Until I reached my 40’s, Dad would introduce me. “ This is oldest son, a work in progress, still doesn’t know to look both ways before crossing the street. “
