Gov. Kemp in Georgia wants to appoint his own person. Trump trying to bully Gov. Kemp, a sitting Republican governor, to appoint someone else.

What day you, states’ rights/constitutional conservatives?

What is the nature of this "bullying"?

I guess I could look up what this is about.

A link or more information would be nice.

I think it's sad how you framed it. Is Trump trying to officially make the appointment? If not, stop being dumb. Every state has their legal way of handling these matters.

quote:

“President Trump quietly met Sunday in the White House with Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp and the governor’s preferred pick to fill the state’s Senate seat, Atlanta businesswoman Kelly Loeffler,” the Wall Street Journal reports.

“But the private huddle turned tense and ended quickly… Mr. Trump has preferred Rep. Doug Collins, a Republican who has vocally defended the president during the impeachment process, and he told Mr. Kemp that he would be taking a risk by appointing the politically untested Ms. Loeffler. At one point Mr. Trump questioned why they were holding the meeting if Mr. Kemp had made his decision.”

I did your work for you. It looks like Trump is doing Kemp a favor by suggesting he pick a decent candidate in Doug Collins as opposed to a woman of little substance who married rich.

I am sure there are inside politics in Georgia which I don't understand.

Hey OP, nice link. It provided us non-Georgians with so much helpful info and backstory to assess the situation and contribute to the discussion. Once again, thanks for providing a link to a news story on this situation.

OP, you are correct.

This board is quick to pine for the days when states appointed senators to represent the state legislature (instead of the people), but will quickly change course when Trump gets involved... just ‘cause.

Sounds like Kemp wants to appoint a crony capitalist chamber of commerce approved candidate who will do Mitch McConnell's bidding

So the Party insiders in Atlanta believe that because she co owns the NBA Hawks, blacks will vote for her.

The US Senate is not the place for on the job training for an unknown political Neophyte. Especially in today's political climate. She could turn out to be another Romney or Murkowski.

At least appoint the husband, he seems like he might have some gravitas or intelligence.

No, it’s not. For those who want the Seventeenth Amendment repealed (many posters on here), electability by welfare queens and property-poor Americans shouldn’t matter. The state government should be free to decide its senators.

That is, until Trump gets involved, then all that talk about states’ rights gets flushed down the pot.

Doubling down on retarded makes it more retarded not less.

Not knowing anything about this situation, Trump trying to persuade a governor to appoint someone else is not at all impeding states rights. Trump is allowed to persuade. The governor can still pick whoever he wants.

They still are. Trump complaining about who he wants isn’t a constitutional issue. At all.
