With two years to go until voters select Louisiana's next governor, state Senator Rick Ward, R-Port Allen, said he's contemplating a run for the state's top office.
"It's something that I'm having discussions with my family about," Ward, 39, said at the Baton Rouge Press Club Monday.
First elected in 2011, Ward is half-way through his third term and will be ineligible to run for re-election in 2023.
During the regular session that wrapped up in June, he staked out a prominent role helping to shepherd legislation to final passage that will gradually boost state aid for roads and bridges by $300 million per year.

If he enters the gubernatorial contest, Ward will likely face-off against Lt. Gov. Billy Nungesser and Attorney General Jeff Landry, both Republicans. Gov. John Bel Edwards, a Democrat, is term-limited and can't run for re-election.

He'd be head and shoulders better than JBE.

Played golf with him several times and really enjoyed his perspective. He is very focused and really wants to help LA
I would def like to hear his campaign platform.

I'll wait to hear what his opinion is on this mask mandate and why he hasn't spearheaded the petition to undo JBE's emergency powers in the senate.

He’s a RINO. Switched parties in 2013 much like Alario. Works at the same firm as Louisiana’s most prominent trial attorney, Tony Clayton, across the river.

...and was willing to make permanent the temporary 0.45% sales tax they added in JBE's 1st term to do it. He authored an amendment to a bill saying as much. This guy may be conservative in some things, but when it comes to cutting taxes. Nope. Thank God for the Conservative Caucus coming out against the amendment language.
ETA: And now the state is sitting on a $1 billion surplus. Was that extra sales tax really necessary?

Prominent trial attorney
Always get a giggle out of people who want tort reform and expect it to come from the Louisiana Legislator when the number of republican legislators who are trial attorneys may outnumber the number of democrats who are. Of course these same people are short sighted enough to think the trial attorneys are the only problem and the insurance companies and their defense lawyers are innocent in the matter of our auto insurance being high as shite.

Not trustworthy at all if you’re looking for someone who is fiscally conservative. He’s only marginally right of JBE.

Awe geez, I don’t know

As long as he didn’t import Mexican welders to undercut American labor he’s good by me.

Fair, but he probably would if given the chance. I don’t think he cuts his own grass.

Then that most definitely is not Rick Ward.
Ward is a RINO that’s just barely a hair more conservative than Billy Nungesser who is the most JBE friendly RINO in Louisiana.
Btw, Jeff Landry gets a bad rap but I can honestly see his gubernatorial bid playing out like Tate Reeves in Mississippi being he got a lot of pushback from all wings of the GOP and he’s been a decent Governor so far and actually has Mississippi doing better than Louisiana which is regrettable for us Louisiana folks.
