According to their post-war memoirs attempting to posture themselves as the good guy, sure.
At the time, most of them were just fine with another clean and quick war for influence. That's why it happened. Unfortunately, almost all of the decision makers in July and August 1914 were either uninformed entirely or unaware of what the war could become since the last batch of war in Europe.
WW1 was a product of Victorian monarchs/governments not understanding that the world and military technology had changed. With a side dish of German and Russia both wanting the scraps from the Habsburg empire that everyone knew was collapsing.....and a dash of French arrogance.

Always. But the current situation is nothing like the run up to either of the world wars. I’m sure we could always look back and find some analogous situation though.

Well in any event sure seems like they are more than willing to try to drag in the US with willing help from many of our politicians.
