If it does go to the poles the only people that can vote for it are the registered voters in the proposed area.

If someone came to your front door who did not live in your area obsessed about an item you get to vote for and they cannot how would you react?

The Poles usually vote the same as Russian.

Well then two different dates can't really be a "line" then can it?

Maybe call it a "dead area" but it's not a dead "line".

I'm glad I stayed out of this pissing contest. The essential fact in this whole matter is that no petition has been filed to date.

Rainey said last month that organizers of the St. George incorporation effort hoped to turn the petition in by the beginning of October, but he now concedes even that could be a stretch.
LINK I wonder what sort of internal dynamics are going on among the organizers that they are delaying filing if they have met their target for number of signatures?

They probably know about the same poll results that I do which a local non-profit group recently commissioned showing the incorporation initiative would fail if the vote were held now.

So by delaying the vote, they can hope Delgado or someone else makes more stupid statements which would only get more 'yes' votes for the effort.

The poll is probably one reason Delgado and Mary Olive Pierson have gone quiet. No need to rock the boat.

Nope. That poll was not about the SG incorporation.

And "recently" does not mean April.

September 1, 2014 was Labor Day, so all state offices would have been closed. It would have been impossible for anyone to turn in signatures since nobody would have been at the registrar's office. I think it's pretty clear that the lady from that article (as you pointed out) was simply saying they can't certify 18.000 signatures overnight, but she was NOT saying that the deadline was September 1. Not that it really matters since they aren't trying for the December ballot anymore.

I heard a pro-St. George commercial on the radio during lunch hour today. The ad claimed they were still looking for 2,000 more signatures.

It seems to me that the St. George organizers are not confident that their 18,000 claimed signatures are good signatures. Otherwise they would have submitted their petition.

Yea, their facebook page says they are still looking for 1,500 more (maybe the radio add is a few weeks old). I think most petitions end up with invalid signatures. In this instance, I am sure some people signed that no longer live in this area, which I presume would invalidate their signatures at the very least. If they are going for 20,000, then they must believe there is a chance that approximately 10% are invalid.

LR has said publicly they expect a 5-10% rate of invalid signatures.

Personally I think they need to drop what they have now. The law allows 60 days to get any signatures that would be short of the needed #. Even I think this is starting to take too long, but I understand their motives. There is no timeline.

I was disappointed they elected to wait. I thought the time had come to submit the petition too.

Could one of Lionel Rainey, the Third's motives be that once they get the petition certified they have to start disclosing where the more than $100,000 (as of last January) they have collected was spent?
