Its interesting they are coming out against him.
He's really not THAT conservative, his liberty score is like 73%. Which is still high. But he's not among the Rand Paul's or Massies or Desantis's that were in the 90s.
But he's still a conservative and a good guy and not a major attention seeker.
I think they just wanted continued chaos on the right if its not going to be a total RINO like Emmer.

I’m sure that journalist has been googling Johnsons a lot.

Rep. Thomas Massie (R., Ky.) entered the House chamber to say that he, too, would vote yes. “No suspense,” he said.

That is no surprise at all. Its the McCarthy wing that could make it interesting.

Given the kind of shite being floated by some of them, I think that they should be scared of open revolt.
One of them from Michigan wanted to strip committee membership for 90 days for anyone who didn’t vote for the chosen Speaker when it was Emmer. He has been very quiet since Emmer begged out.

The media is beside themselves over this. I love it.

McCarthy got caught and I think the establishment caucus does not want anyone talking about FTX and Emmer.
They will stand-down and try to get Johnson to do their uniparty bidding and he won't.

So the talking point is going to be Johnson doesn't have the experience to be Speaker... isn't a fund raiser... represents a poor, rural district... and will have to rely on the like of Scalise & Emmer whose own Speaker bids got scuttled due to this in-fighting so Johnson will have to tread lightly or he could end up getting expelled from the spot too

I think he wins but the question is how many no votes from pubs? They might have made a side deal for the ones in the most purple districts to allow them to vote no yet making sure enough vote yes. I think thats what we see, a few no pub votes based on tough districts

I think you are overestimating Mike Johnson's conservatism. He is not as conservative as Massie, Paul, Desantis etc and not as much of a rogue as any of them.
He is a really good guy, decently conservative, and a very good compromise candidate.
He isn't going to get you everything you want but he is still going to do a lot.

This is one of the Speaker's biggest jobs. That would be an issue.

Jesus man...what's the point of having a "time remaining" clock? Taken 40 minutes to do a quorum count. No wonder shite never gets done. (Actually, Mike is a good dude and will be an excellent conservative speaker.)

Rep. Mike Johnson: “We're not doing Continuing Resolutions anymore. We're doing instead a messy process of doing 12 separate small spending bills that are single subject. It takes more time. It's a messier process. But in the end, I think it'll be good for the American people cause we're trying to curtail spending and the growth of government.”
Common sense. That’s nice to read from a politician.

That is where Scalise comes in, I’m sure.
That district has been a powerful fundraising one under Livingston, Jindal, and Scalise. Scalise supporting him while staying Majority Leader could work.

Russell Long was Senate Majority Leader while Hale Boggs was House Majority Leader in the 60s, IIRC.
And all Louisiana got out of it was more graft.

Hale Boggs pulling a Judge Crater in Alaska didn’t help Louisiana much.
Didn’t help that Long was a huge drunk.

Magic number for Johnson will apparently be 215

Stefanik references “In God We Trust”. Not one D claps. Tells you all you need to know.

Once again the Democrats are being children. Trying to shout down Stefanik as she criticizes them.
All Democrats have done during their Jeffries nomination speeches has been to call all of the Republican nominees MAGA extremists and threats to America. No Republican tried to shout them down because they understand decorum.

That nomination speech for Johnson seemed much more high energy than the other GOP nominees since this whole thing started
