Odd because it is hard to fathom that they would make a mistake like this. Unless the intercepting object changed course (and was not in a fixed orbit...)

I listened to a program about this some time ago on BBC. They track 1000s of pieces of space junk down to the size of a coin. No surprise china blowing up stuff put a lot of it in orbit.
The shuttle was hit on more than one occasion, one piece the size of a pencil eraser cracked the windshield on one trip.
Im certain someone on here could post a pic of the stuff they track, its a wonder a rocket gets through it.

SpaceX is putting a shitton of things up in space like their hundreds of star link satellites so could be something of theirs for all I know. Space junk is a huge and ever growing problem for sure.

I'm not advocating this at all but if a group of people wanted to destroy big tech, MSM, social media and world government efforts, starting a chain reaction of space debris would be a sure fire way to do it. It would push communication tech back 100 years and keep it that way for at least a century.

It’ll happen sooner or later. China destroying that satellite sent thousands of pieces of junk into erratic orbits and only a matter of time before another satellite gets hit and chain reactions occur making space flight unattainable.

Not sure why there's sarcasm here. If some space trash breaches the hull the cabin may depressurize/lose oxygen. Having a space suit would be handy in that scenario.

This same BBC program spoke about a prototype satellite that had an arm and a net on it to collect space debris.
