It doesn’t help that ERLC counsel actually argued that SBC has authority over local churches.

True. Nothing could be further from the truth though. If they were to attempt to exert authority, the entire denomination would fall apart.

ETA: But that's the end goal. Even a loose organization of churches that is mostly conservative is a threat.

Current DOJ setting an precedent. The Right better get after the DOJ for investigating all the parents/teachers/schools/financiars (ie Buffett)/etc etc etc that are sexually destroying the lives of young children and teens.

The UK is already setting the road map for it... Breitbart

It absolutely is the goal of feds in this. As for SBC officials, the goal is increase their power and influence in the SBC. Since they have practically none right now, a push like this abuse report farce was a good opportunity.

And all they succeeded in doing was giving the Devil an opportunity to strike.

Well with such misguided senses of their own importance, they were easily manipulated.

While all of this is true Baptist churches do not need money or approval from the SBC to survive. It's quite the opposite. Let them keep going left and they will go hoorah we destroyed the church. But that's not what will happenn. The SBC CANNOT survive without the individual. It's a host that survives off of a somewhat democratic system that has absolutely no control over its members.

Yep, each local church could easily “leave” tomorrow, without legal fuss, and very little would change for that local church.

Right... isn't this the same DOJ that just pulled of a raid on Trumps place.

I am Not Saying sex crimes against kids shouldn't be investigated, but this target has more "White" conservative gun toting Republicans than any other.

But I sure don't see this same DOJ investigating Drag Queen Story Hour...

If that "very little" included drop-kicking anything that has "Lifeway" on it I'd throw a party.

Huh. Never met anyone who felt this way about Lifeway. My parents use their Masterwork books in their Sunday School class.

Daniel 11:39-40

And he will take action against the strongest of fortresses with the help of a foreign god; he will give great honor to [av]those who acknowledge him and will make them rulers over the many, and will parcel out land for a price.

40 “And at the end time the king of the South will wage war with him, and the king of the North will storm against him with chariots, horsemen, and with many ships; and he will enter countries, overflow them, and pass through.

In their defense they're typically accurate (IMO), but their lesson plans skip over enormous chunks of the OT in favor of crawling through the epistles. It's mainly a preference thing, but one that most of my group shares.

Weird how you “conservatives” will pretend to find pedos under every rock, but refuse to see how there are church leaders victimizing children right in your houses of prayer.

There is no hierarchy in the SBC. I've been SBC all my life and I couldn't name one person who holds an office supposedly over a church that isn't part of that same church. First step before you have an opinion about something should be maybe knowing something about what you're talking about. I don't doubt there is sexual abuse ANYWHERE from the Vatican to the lowest prison in Louisiana. Evil people are opportunistic. SBC members don't approve of any of this or turn a blind eye.
