So what happens when the leftist fear mongering falls flat?

What happens when all Mexicans regardless of status are not sent back, when gays are not sent to camps, when blacks are not shipped back to Africa, etc? Do minorities start to think to themselves that the Democrats are full of shite? Perhaps, that liberal upper class white people only see them as a means to an end? Even if only a sliver come to this realization it could mean a huge blow to the DNC.

Probably what will happen, but even 5-10% of their minority base starting to waver would be a blow.

For it to make any real difference the leftist will have to acknowledge that what has been happening is fear mongering, and it has not helped their cause.

That has already happened. Trump won, not because they supported him, but because they (a shite ton of them) refused to support the same ole same ole in Hillary.
The real question that has to be answered in CAN Trump and for the most part the conservatives show them that there is a better alternative than just beating their heads against the same wall in 2020 and beyond.

Exactly. What if by some miracle (we've already seen one with the election of Trump) the economy actually improves under Trump's direction to the extent that government dependency is greatly reduced due to a marked increase in good paying jobs? Yea, what if we actually enforce current immigration law, lower the corporate tax rate, greatly simply the tax code and reduce regulations attracting billions of dollars of business back into the United States.
