They dispersed after they couldn't find Pence or Pelosi.
Why did they need to find them to insurrect? If the goal was to place Donald Trump back on the throne, and they had control over The Capitol without having fired a shot (which is not that hard to understand, what with none of them having any firearms with them) why just walk away because you can't find the VP or Speaker? Were they needed to complete the coups?
Or further, if the goal was simply to disrupt things and force the vote to hold off further, why leave at all? why not, once inside, just remain until forced to leave? Surely this violent insurrection had time to hang out for a spell? Some 70 year old Senator can be expected to stand and drone on for hours and hours to maintain a filibuster, but hundreds and hundreds of insurrectionists could perform a basic sit in and keep the Senate from voting to, in their minds, save the country?
Kind of feels like we're missing some pieces here, right?

The correct answer is they left at halftime to beat the after work traffic in DC.

They needed to find Pence so they could hang him and thus stop him from certifying the election.
They needed to find Pelosi simply to kill that bitch and put her out of our misery.

Yeah, I'd say y'all are. Brains mostly.

I believe the capitol police kindly asked them to wrap it up and head home. They followed that instruction from what I remember.
when you put it like this the fact that the FBI later showed up at their doors riding humvees with 50 cals mounted on them to throw them in solitary... makes total sense...

They got a look around the Capitol, fun’s over, nothing else to do but go have a few beers and dinner.

What insurrection?

Stop questioning authority and let the "leaders, lead".
Most don't have any idea what a real insurrection looks like.

pence
this thread pretends that there was no plan.
there was.
to have pence say there are serious issues so the state legislatures must sort this out.
then the states choose trumpish electors.
ta da. trump is King.
there was also the version where the state congressional delegations vote 26 to ha ha.
either way the coup wins.
this thread is based on pretending. its a lie.

Neither of those things would have been necessary once they had physical control of The Capitol. Maybe days later, once King Trump would have been back in place...but the whole point of insurrecting was to capture The Capitol and change the outcome. Think it through...

This is a non-answer. They did not need to do what you suggested in order to have a successful insurrection, so surely they must have been thwarted by some law enforcement agency or military force, yes? I'm just asking which group did this, and if you can describe this military victory over the Trump Hordes which nearly overturned nearly 250 years of our sacred Democracy?

None of this, not surprisingly, answers my actual question.
Here, I'll post it again in case you want to take a second attempt.

Stop the Steal! is an idea, not an organization. You're assuming there was actual leadership with clear objectives in mind. Often times what seems like a good idea in theory, falls apart in practice.

No, I'm pretty sure some guy was impeached for being the leader of it. In fact, I think many DC Politicians have spent a good part of last night writing Tweets to be released today blaming this one individual for master minding the whole thing. It would be strange to now suggest the crowd was there on its own accord with no actual leadership. That would sound remarkably like trying to have it both ways.

What part fell apart? There were hundreds of enemy combatants inside the Capitol of the US and were LITERALLY sitting at The Speaker of the House's desk! What more did they need to do to complete the take over at that point? Fill out W2's? Assign parking spaces?
Again...going all the way back to the initial question, what stopped them? They were inside, sitting at the chamber taking selfies with the goal to stop the steal (ie overturn nearly 250 years of American Democracy, and instead of finishing the job it all ended.
What ended it?
