So, Here's My Question. Can Our Economy Survive 4-5 More Weeks of Virtual Shutdown?

I support what the President is doing, btw. Easter was a little too optimistic.

But regardless, where is this economy if it remains shut down thru April 30?

Given the amount of money being doled out to the unemployed and guaranteed loans to the small business that does not have to be paid back if employees are retained..maybe.... it's frightening nonetheless

Economy will survive thanks to that last bill but we gotta turn the spigot on after that.

The chain reaction hasn't begun yet

But it's coming and it's going to be ugly

Okay. Can we avert a deep recession or even depression if we don't start ramping up again before June 1?

When will the riots start when people run out of money and they can't feed their children? Italy is starting to see that now.

One of my favorite local liquor/wine/beer and cigar stores just folded over the weekend, not sure if it was all due to COVID19 but I'm thinking it played a part.

I think that extending the shut down in small nibbles rather than big bites is most prudent.

Let us all hope that as we learn more about the virus, expand testing, and establish successful treatments we are able to get Americans back to work quickly.

I can’t imagine any small business can survive it.

The bailout should have been more focused on keeping small businesses capable of making payroll and not shuttering up.

Concerts, festivals, sporting events, schools, business conferences

And of course all of this has a major direct impact on hotels, the airline industry

We have the oil and gas industry brought to its knees with an even bigger stab to the heart with the Russians and Saudis flooding the market

If you own commercial property prepare for tenants not be able to pay your rent.

This goes way way way beyond just restaurants and bars. There isn't a single sector in the economy other than government and healthcare that won't feel this sting.

This whole week my customers were asking for a change to terms on payment to 90 days. With the additional 4 -5 weeks it will cause a chain reaction of no one being able to pay each other. The businesses that are doing ok now will start to have cash flow problems in late April.

Yes. The ecomonmy has been through much worse than take-out food only.

Even the ones that do survive aren't going to go from the current state to full speed business as usual when the restrictions are lifted

I'm certain he'd rather this not be necessary. But I'm with you, he has my full support.....especially given the fact he has a pretty damn high level of information coming from some of the most skilled advisors out there, I'd say he simply has a bit more of an educated and deliberate outlook on the situation than any of our friendly experts here.
