If drink manufacturers switch from High-Fructose Corn Syrup to Sugar Cane, people will start growing it if there is a need.

There were farmers growing other stuff that switched to Corn when the government started paying farmers to grow corn for ethanol.

I say take the subsudies of Corn for Ethanol and let it stand on its own.

The sugar cane lobby doesn't have any room to talk about subsidies.

If not for subsidies you may not see a single stalk of sugarcane in this state.

The entire Louisiana sugar industry needs to be left to die.

The USDA gives away sugar as a commodity freebie to prevent supply from exceeding demand. There is a surplus of sugar. There always has been. The corn lobby cut the legs out from under the sucrose market with the introduction of high-fructose corn syrup.
