My problem, as usual, isn't so much with Trump but his supporters on this board who want to read his every utterance and gesture as divinely inspired. "Trump took action X; therefore action X must be brilliant! Quick everyone figure out how brilliant it was!"

Yes! Pass the Schumer-Pelosi agenda. That'll show em.

If you're referring to a GOP congressman up for re-election in 2018, yes, yes it will.

I can believe that Ryan and McConnell should be doing a better job without believing that the solution is a Pelosi-Schumer agenda.

GOPe is basically now any Republican who doesn't grovel for Trump.

Possibly to some.

What that term means to me is a GOPer that continues to want to just go along to get along, lets the Dems control the narrative and is nothing but reactive (and only reacts with half-measures at best) and does not want to do anything to escape the death spiral this country is in for fear of upsetting their donor masters.

That is a much more honest appraisal than: "he was sticking it to the GOPe!" or "Now by giving Dems what they want, Dems will forget they want to impeach him and start to vote for his policies!"

This is a rather harmless issue to 'side' with them on. Keep the liquidity humming, we are the most powerful economy in the world.

GOP is just pissed they have to revisit this again before re-election. Boo hoo, their careers are in danger.

It's a nice little warning shot across the bow. Trump is fricking with their careers...

We all knew it would come to this, didn't we?

Trump wants to be successful, and more importantly, be perceived as successful. If the ultimate route to that is being a cuck to the Democrats, so be it.

It just speaks to the complete incompetence of the Democrats that it took them this long to figure it out.

You thundering moron.

By giving Dems the ability to shut down the government in three months you give them the ability to kill tax reform bills, infrastructure bills, hell anything they want.

It's not fair, but Dems don't pay a price if they shut down government. The media makes sure of that. Now they hijack the legislative process.

But hey it fricks over the republicans so yippee!!!

I maintained the false hope that the Trumpsters would stop shy of promoting Pelosi-Schumer but now see that even that wasn't a bridge too far.

Trump saying F you to GOPe, should have happened months ago. Their is no difference between the Gope and Dims, IMO. What Trump did was tell the GOpe that either they get on board somewhat or he will cut deals with the dims to get something done. I am with Trump, screw Ryan and Mitch, seen the backbone of both men this whole election and found both lacking any courage at all...

And if dems try to shut down the government over politics and threaten to do what you state, it's their turn to have all of America angry at them, kneecapping their own re-election prospects. We've also further opened the wedge b/t Bernie/DACA dems and DC Dems. Building a situation where all R and D congressmen in tight districts are gonna have to question whether they want to stick with their party bosses or bounce to the POTUS.

Again, is it a wise career move to hitch your wagon to your party boss and their 15% approval rating before 2018? R or D, doesn't matter.

Long term lurker, first time commenting.

This is Trump's smartest political move to date. Nobody voted for Trump to enact Paul Ryan's "vision," whatever the hell that is. This was the perfect way to unendorse the clowns in his own party who have been working against him since he announced his candidacy, without unendorsing them, and additionally to provide Harvey relief without getting that slow walked to and alienating a gigantic red state. It was a much needed olive branch to the Democrats to foster a working relationship. People have been bitching about gridlock forever.

Trump was elected to be the President. Not the head of the Republican Party. I'm not sure what conservative principle he compromised by making a compromise. The Democrats now owe Trump one - not the other way around.

Let's see:
quote:

His Democratic counterpart was far more upbeat.

“Today was a good day, in a generally very partisan town,” Schumer said. The minority leader said Trump was presented with a GOP deal and a Democratic one, and he “went with the better argument.”

Yeah, I don't think Charles is worried about his base because of this deal

The very loud and disruptive antifa/BLM/dreamer wing of the party is not happy Chuck and Nancy compromised with Literally Hitler. You know, the batshit crazy wing of their party that builds a nice wedge in the Dem party?
