paying 150k for a ~90k (on its absolute best day) house is not affordable.

150k is NOT affordable when the underlying asset is worth not much more than half of that.
You are dumb as a fricking rock.

Sounds to me like that 21 year old needs to rent (with a roommate) until he gets married.
You know. Like people used to do.
People used to get married and buy houses for reasonable prices. Marriage is out of the question for a steadily rising % of young men. I put a 70k salary just to make a point...but in reality most are squeaking by with 30-40k working multiple jobs. Saving money for a house is out of the question.
Boomers want to all point at the young man who works 2-3 part time jobs making diddly squat as lazy and entitled. He didnt vote for politicians who 10X'd the money supply in a 15 year period. He didnt vote for massive government welfare states. He didnt vote for irresponsible fiscal policy that went on for years and years. He didnt vote for bailouts that prevented natural market corrections. He didnt vote for the third world coming here to lower wages. He didnt vote for feminism and DEI. He didnt vote to shut down the economy because of a virus that that was only somewhat dangerous to obese boomers.
Are there some lazy POS young dudes out there...absolutely. It does not represent all of them and it doesnt change the fact that they live in much more challenging economic and societal times than Boomers and Xers did.

Does it take more years of the median salary to earn the median home price now or 40 years ago?
All im saying is that when times get tough, adapt. Either lower your standards or get creative. Trying to buy a 750k house on a 70k salary is just asinine

You are dumb as a fricking rock.
How can you be so fricking stupid not to understand that? Seriously. Tell me again that a man making 70k cant afford a home that costs 150k and confirm that you are indeed, dumb as a fricking rock

No one cares what you feel for.
Vote for it.

Obama scrapped all of them in 09.
Try to keep up

The guy making 70k a year is coming up with 60-70k at the closing table?
Because that's what it would take to buy that house you posted.

Politicians who advocate for policy that means that young people today have, at the very least, the same oppurtunity to buy homes that their parents had.
Ideally, the previous generation wants things to be better for the next. But at this point I think we'd all settle for equal.

Holy shite you really are retarded.
70k can purchase a 150k home.
Dude asked to provide an example of a home that costs 150k that wasnt a shite hole. I did. That house was not a shite hole. It had been renovated.
Would it be a wise purchase? NO.
Do you understand yet or should I try a third time?
Do you understand yet

eta: were done here. Im not arguing with you anymore about this subject, especially after this last comment from you about needing that size of a downpayment. You are so fricking clueless.
zero chance you have three homes and dont know the downpayment requirments for mortgage loans. 70k down payment on 150k home

His claim was that there are plenty of homes at 150k or under that arent shiteholes
He is clearly wrong by the two examples provided. Yet he has the nerve to claim im the stupid one

I think the point is getting lost a bit. That is that you and a couple others ITT are so out of touch that you think a $150K house is a realistic price for a starter home. In reality, it's going to range anywhere from probably $275k and potentially way up from there. For example, I'm in the DC area, and a starter SFH home here is going to be around $800K. Salaries can also be pretty high here, so that's the tradeoff.

For that house? Yes.
Have you ever heard of LTV? I guarantee one of the reasons that house is sitting is because no one is lending nearly enough for anyone to buy that pos.
You are so far out of your depth you don't even know which way is up lol.
FYI you need more than just your downpayment when closing on a house.

it was harder to buy a house from the mid to late 70s through the mid 80s.
Quick question that no one in the thread has been able to answer.
How many years of median salary would it take for you to earn the median home's price now vs the 70s and through the mid 80s?
I wont do all of it but I did 1979
After taxes if a median household income family in 1979 saved their entire earnings(after taxes) till they got a down payment for median house price itd take them 9.46 months.
If the same median household income in 2025 did the same thing(after taxes), itd take them 14.78 months
*For shits and giggles I did 1981 which supposedly according to that twitter link was most unaffordable year ever....using same exact metrics 8.74 months

If you are willing to live in the hood or a shack 100 miles from the nearest job center...yeah then you could find a house at 150k
