I think Ooga is right, he's motivated by being above the fray via what he believes is ideological consistency.
Now, I would argue that an ideology centered on ideological neutrality is useless, and in fact, the evidence establishes it can't muster a defense of itself. So in that way I think it's hard to be above the fray when your core belief system is an utter failure in practice. But, he probably is being pretty ideologically consistent within his own paradigm.
