I'm not, the responsibilities of the second unit director is nothing close to the person in the director's chair. They get pick up shots, shoot establishing shots, and normally shoot scenery that's used in post-production. At no point are they guiding the story or directing actors.
But of course you didn't know that.

Co-director is a little strong.
She is gonna be second unit director and as far as my understanding goes regarding production they attend to fairly minor stuff.
She actually is overqualified to run a second unit. She is an established director.
I get your point, though. As a guy that is in the prime age for the OT and loves Star Wars dearly, I share concerns. I liked TLJ as a stand alone movie but wasn’t a huge fan of what it did to the universe.
I like Rey a lot as a character and I love how she was the conduit by which my young daughter became a huge Star Wars fan.
I hate forced diversity. It leads to a worse product. I don’t demand white dudes direct Star Wars movies.
For example, if Kathryn Bigalow or Patty Jenkins were given a Star Wars movie, I’d be hyped about it.

I’d love it if Bigalow made a sequel to Strange Days, which I felt was an underrated sci-fi / cyberpunk film.
