I've changed my view on this after watching my grandfather pass. It took days of already being brain dead, being starved by his hospice care, before he finally passed. It was cruel. Who would possibly want to go out like that? In these types of cases, I don't understand why euthanasia isn't allowed. I'm not sure I feel the same way about someone with years to live who has just been diagnosed a terminal illness.

Same thing with my dad. He died of alzheimers. His last year was him just wasting away, the last 8 months were particularly horrible. He had no chance to ever get better, but he had to suffer through that, his family had to suffer through seeing him like that, and a lot of money was spent on someone that had no hope to ever improve. So I can certainly get behind euthanasia for terminal conditions like that.

Generally, I think people should have the choice.

However it’s going to be tough to prevent people from using this as a suicide avenue for things and conditions that aren’t end of life/true quality of life situations

Sounds like freedom to me and as such we cannot allow it!

This is clearly a subject/thread that belongs on the SEC Rant.

Yes. But the big issue will be fraud when big money is involved. Hell, some kids have murdered their parents because they couldn't wait for the inheritance.

Should it be?

Assuming we continue on the path we're going society will not only allow human euthanasia......society will mandate it. You cringe? Remember this.....America now a law on the books that define when life begins. According to the law on the books NOW, life begins at the moment the human being (baby) exists the birth canal. Therefore when the baby (i.e.human being) exits the birth canal then society allows the mother to kill her baby.....if she so chooses. Now I assume the arrangement between the mother and the abortion mill (i.e. Planned Parenthood) allows the abortionist to harvest the aborted baby, cut it up, and sell the tissue for profit. THAT is what is happening now, and your tax dollars are subsidizing the process. If you don't feel a tinge of shame and outrage...then God help us. That's assuming you acknowledge the concept of a Deity who condemns the practice in no uncertain terms? . You see it's all relative.

Bottom line if a culture allows genocide on the level we're witnessing now....I would argue it's not outside the realm of possibility society will then mandate when life ends. Once those two boundries are established (when life begins - when life ends) then you can then tweak the rules to determine who lives and who dies based on whatever criteria society establishes. If for example the quasi-marxist socialist-democrats decide white Christian Conservative men are a genuine threat to society....

You catch my drift? Think about it.

This would not work, because a Last Willl is not effective until the moment of your death

Most states have a similar document to address medical care called a “Living Will” (in Texas, a Directive to get up physicians). Currently, it can only address withholding life-sustaining treatment, but not permit eurhanasi.

That should be easy enough to change.

I'm well aware of every point you just made, and yes it should be easy enough to change. That was my point.
