We’re still conservatives, but they aren’t liberals anymore. They are progressives. A true classical liberal is now a Republican.

I stopped using the term "liberal" several years ago when it became obvious that communist insurgents had completely taken over the Democrat party, Hollywood, Big Tech, college campuses; etc. We now have patriots on the right and soviets on the left.

Yes, because the terms are misused currently. Democrats have hijacked the word "liberal", which at its core describes the principles upon which the country was founded. Hell, look at the first sentence in the Wikipedia entry for liberalism:
quote:

Liberalism is a political and moral philosophy based on liberty, consent of the governed and equality before the law.[1][2][3] Liberals espouse a wide array of views depending on their understanding of these principles, but they generally support free markets, free trade, limited government, individual rights (including civil rights and human rights), capitalism, democracy, secularism, gender equality, racial equality, internationalism, freedom of speech, freedom of the press and freedom of religion.

Do you seriously think this describes those who are labeled "liberals" these days?

No, we should be specific on those terms, however Right and Left should be thrown out. It’s the sane vs the insane and freedom vs tyranny. Some liberals do not fully realize that.

Not yet. True liberals now have more in common with Republican policies than Democrat policies, but Republicans are not even close to classical liberalism. The issue with Republicans is that they only embrace traditionally liberal policies to the extent they aren't in power. For example, the very recent focus on the importance of freedom of speech is driven by the fact that Republicans are being forced out of the public square by leftists via mob tactics.

Supporting an enormous military is the opposite of classical liberalism, yet Republicans embrace it. However, I suspect that support will start to wane over the next decade or two as the Democrats gut it and replace it with a giant woke force.

The only reason liberals changed the name to progressives is because the word liberal got a very bad connotation amidst the public. If you don't think the switch was purely for PR reasons just ask a progressive 'What views does a progressive have that liberals don't have?'

Seems like the “conservative “ side has slowly slid more to the left than we may think. As “things “, like say same sex marriage, becomes more “normalized”, we have to look back to see the contrast to today.

Historically Republicans are just Democrats driving the speed limit. That's starting to change a bit.
