There are stretches where there is no border patrol presence for hundreds of miles. Doing truck distribution is easy to hide as there is nobody there to see.
I have no doubts this is occurring - my only question is how relevant it is to the larger problem occurring at the ports of entry. I am all for stopping drugs wherever/however possible. And if a wall is built, then the drug problem WILL be relieved to some degree. My question here is how much significance/
Our PROBLEM is to convince good people who have not bothered to pay attention prior to now - NOW is the time we have to make a cogent argument. There are PLENTY of unassailable arguments in favor of a wall and almost NO argument against its effectiveness.
The problem I see is that some fraction of those 'good people' my see thru this "stop drugs" as a stupid argument and quit listening - probably meaning they will not make an effort to vote in support.
We CANNOT afford to allow potential supporters to remain on the sideline because a MAJOR part of out "argument' is illogical.
We HAVE an unassailable position - DO NOT TARNISH IT!!!

I think we are totally dependent on appealing to whatever common sense still exists in the American population - Hints of 'overhype' can deflect otherwise truth-seeking potential allies.
his is especially true since we are also battling a hostile media that is doing anything it can to support the leftist agenda
we have to be above scrutiny, it may not be fair, but we have to deal with reality

I think the Trump's wall mantra and drug rationale are manifestations of the need oversimplify the issue in order to sell it on a broader scale. "We need to overhaul our immigration policy to better disincentivize illegal immigration" is less sexy of a hook than "BUILD THE WALL!" "WE HAVE TO STOO THE DRUGS!" resonates with more folks than "making it harder to border hop and stiffer penalties for criminal activity among illegals is necessary."
Yes - I understand the 'simplified talking point' advantage
That was how I treated the "MEXICO WILL PAY FOR IT" is much better messaging than saying "Overall economic benefits will accrue to the USA and to the detriment of the Mexican economy" I never ever even for a moment thought he was telling us that "Mexico will write a check to defray construction expenses."
not once.

I'm not a huge "build the wall" type guy, honestly.
Well I am - and it is because :

I support it as a measure--a part of a broader, comprehensive approach to the problem. Too many folks on both sides have made it about the wall itself, like it's some panacea. It's annoying, yet we wouldn't be talking about solutions at all if it weren't for the consistent "wall/drugs" talk from Trump.

to be sure - the conservative movement has been demanded to be perfect when examined from any perspective from any era for any interpretation for over 50 years.
And until Trump there was NO PUSHBACK -
That was the ONE thing I liked about Trump duding the primary season when I was a VIRULENT opponent.

Anyone with a lick of business or economic sense could have surmised that. Sadly, I woefully overestimated the number of folks with even a shred of acumen in those areas
Now I put the "BUT HE SAID MEXICO WILL PAY FOR IT!" in the same category of rubes as those who ask "WELL WHY DIDN'T HE DO ___ WHEN THE GOP CONTROLLED THE HOUSE?!" I have very little patience for those types anymore

Well I am
Yeah, for better or for worse, the wall has to remain front and center for ANYthing of substance to get done with regard to illegal immigration. It's our best shot at something tangible regarding an issue that we've had hot air blown up our asses about for decades now.

I was pretty strong against trump in the primaries as well, mostly because I thought he had no chance to win
I was PISSED, because I felt like ANY of the other candidates would win in a walk (except maybe Cruz)
happy to admit I was wrong, don't even care that I was called a "cuck" back then...

drug intervention is also good, but not a deciding factor.
Drug intervention is THE deciding factor for families who have lost loved ones to heroin. There are millions of us.
Listen to the crowds at Trump rallies. Some of the biggest explosions of cheering and applause happen when Trump brings up stopping drugs at the border.
And yes, heroin and fentanyl are pouring across the border in the deserts (as well as every other access point)
Not to mention 40,000 or so illegals crossing the unguarded desert and river border every month. - per Victor Davis Hanson on Life Liberty & Levin

The cops in border towns including many BP agents are on the dole of the cartels. They let certain ones through regularly and once awhile allow a “bust” to keep up their image.

Yes. but he should focus solely on opiods, although most of the really bad stuff (fentanyl) is coming from china through shipping containers.
