Only because someone, somewhere can buy a cheap-arse plastic hose for $4.38 instead of $5.38, you call it good.
When you're poor, it's a game changer for quality of life.
And Amazon is as much a marketplace as it is a retailer which greatly benefits small business.

Brick and mortar have to charge more to cover this overhead. Joe customer goes to brick and mortar, inspects what he wants to buy and leaves to purchase online "where it's cheaper". Brick and mortar store goes out of business.
So what, the business environment is always undergoing change. I am sure at the turn of the century local general stores bitched about people trying stuff at their store then ordering it from the Sears catalog. Brick and mortar stores will either adapt or fade away. While Walmart killed off a lot of Mom and Pop grocery stores and stores that sold general goods , it created many Mom and Pop specialty shops that thrive. Should we be mourning the demise of video rental stores now that everyone is streaming movies, I don't think so, it is just progress.

He also completely ignores the part where amazon strangling mom and pop shops bit, doesn’t mean a damn thing when you consider we were talking about an office building. New Yorkers are going to use Amazon whether hq2 opened up there or not.
This was not a win for small businesses in the state of new york. It was a blow to all the people who would have benefited from the higher paying job.
Do I think Amazon deserves usps freebies? F no. But that has ZERO to do with the benefits they just ran out of town.

Amazon (and Ebay) are both SUBSIDIZED by the USPS.

Never the less, it is true.
Edit: I woke up a little early, and this particular dumb statement stuck in my craw.
Here's one result from a data search - and there are more if you care to look:

I selected that one, because most people have heard of Fortune, and it is relatively short while hitting the key points.
Where have you guys been? This stuff has been talked about for years. Nothing new here. It's like you guys haven't been paying attention.
Now the bit about technology changing the nature of retail? That is a strong argument. But it is also the kind of thing you could argue about in depth for a lot longer than this thread has been.

People forget that Wal-Mart was a small local business at one time too. Would be better if they never went public and went with more of a Costco model minus the membership, but hey when you surrender yourself to Wall Street, you surrender quality to your shareholders desires.
You serious? Ever heard of Sam’s?

It’s about the ROI. You are every bit as stupid as AOC and you’re just too dumb to even know it.

Then to put the cherry on the crap sundae, Amazon (and Ebay) are both SUBSIDIZED by the USPS
I negotiated a great deal with my auto mechanic for frequent oil changes on 5 cars I have plus exclusive use of his shop for all our repairs.
Is my auto mechanic SUBSIDIZING me?
