quote:

On Wednesday night, Late Night host Seth Meyers took aim at the Beltway insiders “ludicrously blaming progressives for the results” in Virginia, where Democrat Terry McAuliffe lost to Trumpian Republican Glenn Youngkin in the gubernatorial election.

Youngkin, a Carlyle Group private-equity guy worth an estimated $440 million, made a name for himself by opposing mask and vaccine mandates, questioning the 2020 presidential election results in calling for an audit of Virginia voting machines, opposing abortion, supporting transphobia, and misrepresenting the presence of critical race theory in Virginia schools. Youngkin also managed to attract more moderates by distancing himself a bit from former President Donald Trump optically, even though the two are almost completely aligned politically.

“Youngkin enthusiastically welcomed Trump’s endorsement while also keeping him at arm’s length and declining to stand onstage with him,” explained Meyers. “At one point, he happily accepted Trump’s endorsement, and then at another, he said he had nothing to do with the tele-rally Trump held for him and acted like he barely even talked to Trump.”

“When they actually have to appeal to swing voters in a state like Virginia, they talk about Trump the way parents talk to their kids about The Babadook,” Meyers added.

In addition to distancing himself from Trump at least visually, Youngkin won by leaning into culture-war fear-mongering, spreading the largely baseless lie that critical race theory has “moved into all our schools in Virginia.”

“Youngkin jumped on board with the right’s new freakout over something called ‘critical race theory,’ a thing they can’t define and that isn’t taught in K-12 schools anyway. Fanning the right-wing moral panic over critical race theory was one of the key pieces of Youngkin’s strategy, as you can tell from how many times he’s said it,” offered Meyers, before throwing to a montage of Youngkin boasting about how he plans to “ban critical race theory.”

“So Republicans and Fox News have successfully weaponized the panic over so-called critical race theory, but I’m sorry, it shouldn’t be radical to teach children about the history of racism in American society. No offense, but kids should be able to read Toni Morrison without taking a Babadook in their pants.”

For the record, according to the Encyclopedia Britannica, critical race theory is defined as an “intellectual and social movement and loosely organized framework of legal analysis based on the premise that race is not a natural, biologically grounded feature of physically distinct subgroups of human beings but a socially constructed (culturally invented) category that is used to oppress and exploit people of color. Critical race theorists hold that racism is inherent in the law and legal institutions of the United States insofar as they function to create and maintain social, economic, and political inequalities between whites and nonwhites, especially African Americans.”

…Can anyone point out to me a joke there? Seriously, there doesn’t seem to be any attempt at humor there. Like none whatsoever. Even within the serious context of the article, there was no attempt whatsoever to separate it and the show that’s theoretically supposed to be comedic. It’s really a “How dare our political opponent run against us… and that’s it!”

There are Pentecostal church services literally funnier than these late night shows these days. They are just Goebbels levels of propagandists. Where was any attempt at a joke and not just being outraged and appalled? In a decade when we win it is going to be funny to see Seth Meyers begging for food in the street and then serving him in the face with a kick sandwich. They are dying and won’t recover. They will laugh as you starve and die.

It must be alarming for these “comedians” to realize that most people in this country don’t give a shite about their opinions - oh, I mean comedy.

Good observations. On the rare occasion that I check out one of those shows, particularly Seth Myers, Trevor Noah, and Stephen Colbert, two things:
1) what you described is 60% to 80% of each monologue
2) the posters on the O-T and here on PT are FAR funnier than the writers of those shows and I am NOT exaggerating

Another amazing soliloquy from the left.

“CRT isn’t being taught in schools. But it should be.”

Also, the Toni Morrison book campaign happened in 2012-13. And it was about a book that featured gang rape and bestiality. I know that the morally bankrupt left is fine with that. Most of the country isn’t.

Always remember that when Seth Meyers laid his head down on the pillow every night from 2016 to 2020, he KNEW that HE was the one who told the disparaging jokes about Donald Trump in front of Pres. Obama at W.H. Correspondents Dinner.

Thus he knew that HE is one of the reasons Trump ran for President.

Never forget that, Seth, you unfunny douchebag!

What exactly do they point to that is racist in 'law and legal institutions'? There definitely is not equal application of the law as long as there are loopholes for those in power, politicians and other influential folks (and their children). But racist laws?

Leftists are saying CRT doesn't exist, yet they want to teach our children that laws are racist. Let's instead tell them about the unfairness of the loopholes and give them examples, name names.

As a matter of fact, we should make a list and start pounding it, because leftists are not going to give up on teaching CRT. They are liars.

They've destroyed statues of white guys with great accomplishments and have no qualms about erecting statues of criminals. Great way to teach our youth that crime makes one a hero!

CRT is a path forward for leftists to destroy our Constitution, all because it was written and signed by white guys.

They are not comedians. It is possible they never really were. Have these useful idiots just been reassigned to a different role?

But that’s exactly what’s been happening, or was about to happen. It isn’t a baseless lie. Calling it that is in fact the big lie.

And who the hell is Seth Meyers to talk about politics anyways?

They can get by with this redefinition of CRT. Our children have always been taught about the history of slavery and racism. No parent is against that continuing. The issue is with the way they now want to teach that history and devalue individuals who had no part in that history and fostering separation.

It is amazing how often ignorant "progressives" make a strong statement, only to make an equally strong statement that contradicts what they said just seconds earlier...if not in the very next sentence.

Either these people are truly this stupid, believe that everyone else is too stupid to notice, or they flat-out have zero shame and are gaslighting.

The talking points have been sent out. Now that the libs see people taking notice to this CRT crap being pushed on their kids, they are trying to pretend it doesn’t exist to limit the damage. They’ll throw every ‘-sit’ they can at conservatives to spin it as ‘we’re just teaching the history of the country.’

As usual it’s all lies and BS from the left
