Isn't this what Bush did initially? The Taliban's response was that they wanted to see the evidence of Bin Laden's responsibility, but were willing to hand him over to a third-party. There are contemporaneous articles written at the time which suggest the Taliban foreign minister offered a secret meeting in October, 2001, in Islamabad, or had one with the CIA, where Bin Laden would be handed over to the Organization of the Islamic Conference, where he was to be tried. Bush wanted the war, and so did the American public though, so war was inevitable.

I have no problem with pulling our boys out of that shithole, but we literally just abandoned millions of dollars of advanced military equipment that the Taliban quickly scooped up.

I think the feeling is mutual. Pakistan suffered a lot more due to this "alliance" than the U.S.
