Wicker to Vote to Certify Election Result
WASHINGTON - U.S. Senator Roger Wicker, R-Miss., today released the following statement before
voting to count the results of the 2020 Presidential election:
“Today I will vote to accept the results of the December 14 Electoral College vote, which resulted in
the election of Joe Biden as President. I am disappointed in the outcome of the 2020 election. I have
been privileged to work with President Trump during his successful four-year term, I was glad to earn
his endorsement in 2018, and I was honored to serve as a Co-Chairman of his state campaign.

“However, our campaign lost a close election, and it is time to acknowledge that. The President’s own
Attorney General, his head of election security, and a number of Trump-appointed, conservative
federal judges all have found that, despite widespread allegations of fraud, there simply was not
enough evidence
to change the outcome of the election in any state. This is
quote:

also the conclusion of
every Republican Secretary of Defense
from the past two decades. As they wrote recently, ‘the time
for the formal counting of the electoral college votes, as prescribed in the Constitution and statute, has
arrived.’

“Congress cannot — and should not — get into the business of deciding the results of our elections.
Under the Constitution and federal law, Congress’s power is limited to counting electoral votes duly
submitted by the states. Anything further would not be compatible with our Constitution or the
conservative principles of limited government that I have sworn to defend.

“I also fear any attempt by Congress to overturn state election results would empower national
Democrats to hasten the end of the Electoral College, which preserves a voice for smaller states like
Mississippi in our national elections. Without the Electoral College, large, liberal states like New York
and California would likely determine the direction of our republic to its detriment.

“I know many of my fellow Mississippians will disagree with my decision, and I share their
commitment to making sure our elections are fair. But I must vote according to my conscience, my
oath of office, and my understanding of the rule of law. I hope that with the start of a new Congress,
we can take steps to restore faith in America’s electoral system.”

I went ahead and highlighted the word "fear" and some other key phrases. Are we really surprised that former Secretaries of Defense want to see DJT to the door given their new jobs in the defense industry and his position on staying out of wars?

The most frustrating part for me is the gaslighting about what the courts considered. It is bad enough that they abandoned their responsibilities, but to now have their decisions cited as though they actually considered evidence (as opposed to finding ways to punt) is rubbing salt in the wound.

What on Earth does their opinion have to do with the validity of the claim? Were they privy to information not available to th rest of us, or is this just his attempt at an appeal to some semblance of authority?

With the DemocRats in control of the presidency, house and senate...every Republican know they must now fall in line and obey or their state gets NOTHING. That's how it works in DC.

I had emailed his office encouraging him to join in contesting and let the process play out. Didn’t get any response until the afternoon of the 6th and that release was included. Funny thing was it came out during the lock down, so appears it was intended to come out after but actually came out before due to things being stopped.

Since that time have received correspondence from his office about business as usual..expand broadband blah blah blah. This was included in the email that went out Monday. With what our country is facing, throws our college athletics? This is the guy who was supposed to be leading the senate charge on reigning in big tech, and we are back to the distraction of college athletes earning money.

quote:

Continued Work on Commerce Committee As the lead Republican on the Senate Commerce Committee, I will continue to shape legislation on a broad range of issues affecting our economy. One of my top priorities continues to be expanding broadband to rural communities. Lawmakers from both parties understand the importance of delivering high-speed internet to every community in America, and I will lead efforts in Congress to expedite making that vision a reality. I also plan to introduce legislation that would attract private investment to rural communities and improve STEM education in rural schools. The Commerce Committee oversees our nation’s transportation networks, which are vital to our economy and our vaccine distribution efforts. This Congress, I hope to help negotiate a multi-year surface transportation bill to continue improving safety and provide funding for critical transportation programs, including highway, freight, motor vehicle, and rail programs, such as Gulf Coast Rail. States across the country are advancing legislation to allow college athletes to earn money through the use of their “name, image, and likeness” in merchandise. To avoid a confusing patchwork of state laws on this issue, I will help draft legislation to create a national standard. I will also help write legislation to authorize funding for NASA, including Stennis Space Center in Hancock County, and I will keep advocating for data privacy legislation that protects consumers’ personal information. The committee will continue to support the Coast Guard’s polar icebreakers being built by Mississippi shipbuilders in Pascagoula. I will continue working on legislation to promote aquaculture and support Gulf Coast fisheries. And I will keep pushing the Army Corps of Engineers to complete the long-delayed Yazoo backwater pumps and the Pearl River flood control project. There is no shortage of work to be done, and I look forward to producing more results for Mississippi and the American people.

After reading the OP it's clear this spineless Republican isn't concerned about upholding the constitution, it's all about "going along to get along", what a nonsensical and a proven failed strategy.

Voting against certification would have been a protest vote. Voting for it given all that is known about the fraud, is the act of a weak minded person.

Primary the cuck.

I’m thinking he likely retires, but I won’t vote for him if he runs.

Wicker is right.

Get real. The Senate simply voted to accept the ballots the states sent.

What did you want them to do--send them back?

Your anger at Wicker is misplaced.

Your anger should be at GA and PA legislators and governors and Trump's campaign team that relied on nothing but rallies instead grass roots registrations and the like.

Except that objecting to a states electoral votes is constitutional, and congress can decide to reject them. It’s been done before.

What they really mean to say is “I’m too much of a pussy to do what’s right out of fear of the media, the radical left, and a generally stupid population of voters who don’t understand how our system is actually set up to work”

What Wicker should've done was ask the people of his state if they are willing to go the next 2 years with bare minimal support from Washington. Let the people decide.

This....... The left had a game plan and it paid off.... I have heart burn with the judicial activism in certain states that allowed them to circumvent the state legislatures authority to determine election laws..... I have issue with state legislators allowing it to happen..... But, this is where we are. We can cry and bitch about or start working to make sure it never happens again...... We need to get more involved at all levels.... We need to put our money and time where our mouth is and get involved.

57% of the people voted for Trump, with 41% for Biden. I’d say the people of MS already answered the question. The fact that MS would be punished for Wicker doing his job (as Cindy-Hyde Smith and our Republican representatives did), then that just speaks to a separate problem with congressional leadership.

The Idea of Individual Rights that come from God, is unique in Human history. Tyranny and/or Monarchy/Theocracy or War Lord rule has always been the norm. Those who lust for power of other people's lives - for whatever reason - will always find an excuse to enable said power grab.

Of course, for People (Democracy) to rule themselves, they MUST have the innate wisdom to do so successfully. And that Wisdom must be shared with persuasive arguments, to the Populous, that the implied Social Contract is firmed.

The 'lie' is now being embraced, censorship employed, and soon very likely, the outright persecution and annihilation of opposition critiques....via the Marxist MO re "the barrel of a gun". Which of course, leaves only one reactionary alternative for such persecution. Per the historical record.

"A house built on sand will not stand". Lies as a basis for unity and societal prosperity, and 'herding cats' to empower successful societal governance and a moral-based social justice (I.e., coerced, personal equity IRL)...is a ludicrous, if not pernicious folly.

If there is God...this will not stand. If there is no god...a handful of years vs an eternity of non-existence...really don't matter anyway. Better to go ahead an get out, and let the blood suckers enjoy their short ride. Don't mean one has to turn the cheek; but that is a whole nother issue.
