In Washington, budget deals are often less about policy and more about buying time.
The 2018 and 2021 precedents are clear:
Funding passed, the crisis was postponed, and the file returned under a different headline.
The ICE debate is moving along the same track. This isn’t really about security — it’s about who flips the table, and when.
Power today isn’t in the vote count;
it’s in which crisis this issue gets bundled with next.
In the Senate, the word “for now” is never innocent.
