"While the president has the authority under the War Powers Act to respond when the U.S. is under attack or in imminent danger, such circumstances did not exist with regard to Syria," the Utah Republican said Monday.

I kind of agree with him.

I don't like any President slinging bombs Willy nilly.

I'm also tired of being world police.

I strongly disagree with Trump bombing Syria however the war powers act is unconstitutional and would not survive scrutiny from SCOTUS.

Reigning in the unilateral power of the Executive to deploy us military assets would be a huge win for this country.

You would have been upvoted for posting this in 2011 or 2013 when Obama was President. I agree with Lee as well. He and Rand Paul are the two sanest voices in the Senate when it comes to foreign policy.

Great idea. Let’s let the bums in congress stand around with a thumb up their arse debating the problem for weeks before they give the Pres the thumbs up. Yeah, no thanks.

Well, there are quite a few right leaning voters who agree with Mike Lee and did not like the move. Yes, you might have seen a lot more up votes, but you would have nor do you see voters of the left thinking for themselves, and posting their displeasure with the president they voted for.

Many have before the order to attack, the day of, and the days after. So ease up their lib.

Too bad Congress in both parties wants nothing to do with a vote like that and avoid it like the plague.

Lawmakers don’t want to be accountable for the risks of the battlefield.Cowards.

However, the war powers act is still an unconstitutional breach of powers. I believe the Framers wanted “energy in the executive.” That is, they vested the awesome Article II powers in a single official because they knew the security of the nation hinged on the government’s ability to take swift, decisive action against foreign threats.

If Congress doesn't like it, they're free to impeach the President or defund the military.

Oh I’m very well aware of why this will never happen.

Doing something to reign in these quick little 20 minute in and out adventures around the globe is a political hot potato.

I’m sick of all the posturing bullshite. That’s all Mike Lee and everyone else in congress except Rand Paul has done since 2010.

Whether we should go spend some American lives intervening in affairs of the world that have nothing to do with us and will have the unintended effect of making us far more enemies than we gain:

Usurp Congress's power to declare war. Article 5 is why Robert Taft, aka Mr. Republican, opposed NATO outright. He thought it was a vehicle to draw America into conflicts without a formal declaration of war. And he was right.
