It was a last straw for me personally. I unfriended/followed anyone who did that.

Cringe AF.
Remember when all the "I support our veterans" bros joined us in Iraq and Afghanistan?
You don't? I don't either.

It’s the current thing. Their lives lack meaning or substance so they attach to the latest flavor of the day.
For instance:
BLM
LBQT
Masks and vax
Mary and Joseph were immigrants
Climate change
It’s all platitudes. Nothing more.

Most people are stupid and have never been in a fight.
And this point, what do people think “standing” with Ukraine means?

People think the have to pick a side on Everything. Libs default to opposite of Trump.
Former administration literally proven to be on take and getting kickbacks from Ukraine.
Current administration relationship w Russia proven to be a liberal campaign.
That simple.

A lot of people like to cheer a war from a safe distance.

Yep, and the same goes for criticizing war from a safe distance.

“I Stand With (insert platitude)”
=
“I want other peoples’ money and lives to support (X)”
It’s empty, meaningless and vapid of reason

Ukraine is literally the perfect progressive idiot support system.
Progressives love taxes, but they want YOU to pay them.
Now they love war, but they want YOUR kids dying, not theirs. They are too busy turning theirs into victims or the opposite sex.

but it feels like Trump is really trying to leaning into the villain role siding with the actual bad guys in that war, if that is indeed what he’s doing.
It does not feel like that, because that is indeed not what he is doing. You're feeling what you're being told to feel.
What he is indeed doing is trying to make a deal that benefits all involved parties and the party that needs the deal the most and has the least leverage is being the most difficult.
I saw an amazing video of a deer that had gotten his antlers tangled in a rope that was tied to a tree limb overhead and had struggled until he was helplessly hung up, half suspended with his front legs off the ground and exhausted waiting for death. The people filming decided to try and save him so they approached using the tree truck as a shield to get close enough to cut the rope. Instead of remaining calm and allowing itself to be saved, the deer got a jolt of adrenaline and fought harder than you can imagine to escape his only chance at rescue.
Imagine watching that and thinking "I stand with the deer".

By trying to force Z to sign a peace deal?
Please explain with evidence.

Groomers like the one you replied to do not want peace. They are blood thirsty war mongers now that support the MIC.

I think mostly they’ve heard a talking point on TV and are responding emotionally.
The only way to counter that is to ask logical questions and ask for substantive evidence.
A lot of people are programmed because of the propaganda we hear daily. Cutting USAID and other grants will help, but we need to force people to engage their critical thinking skills which due to the horrible Frankfurt school inspired educations we receive isn’t something that comes easy for most because we’re trained and rewarded not to do that almost from birth.
The question should almost always be “why?”.
