How fricking stupid are these people?
Pretty darn smart actually.
They know their voters ARE stupid and will not blame them for price increases.
It’s like property tax hikes. Renters blame their greedy landlords for their rent increases!

Well, at least they took care of themselves (as usual). From the Seattle Times article:
Off to Starbucks!

For the tax to truly work as intended, every jurisdiction within 100 miles needs to charge it too...
LOL, and what happens to the merchants on the fringe of the 100-mile radius? Do you extend the radius another 100 miles indefinitely to protect them?

So if I set up on the street with a truck and sell drinks from the next county for a buck less,
It’s the same thing as “dry counties” in the South. All it does is inconvenience buyers and create boom towns right on the border for the counties that aren’t stupid enough to try and impose their morals through government bans

Just seems bizarre for them to say this. I would have thought the very point of the tax was to increase the price so people curtailed their consumption!

Should get the money from the front and eliminate government subsidies to corn farmers. Then the market would correct the price for sugars created from corn.

This has already happened in Boulder. One day last summer My entire grocery bill was up by like $20. The lady at the register was like, yea, it's your tea, soda, and Gatorade that spikes up the price because of the new sugar tax. Well I found my solution. I go to the next county over in Broomfield CO to grocery shop now. Liberals go over the top on a lot shite.

Seems like this same story played out in NYC or Philly last year. The city acted absolutely flabbergasted that retailers raised prices to cover the tax.
These guys are dumb but they knew this would happen. This is just CYA excuse making and unfortunately will probably work on their constituencies.

The tax is collected on the final distribution of sweetened beverages by a distributor. The tax is not collected by the retailer nor is the tax burden intended to fall onto the consumer."

That's going to put a dent in the old EBT card.
I like how they advertise the fricking the voters are getting on the tag.

How do their voters still fall for this line of bullshite?
They accept any horrible piece of legislation so long as the democrats behind hit didn't intend to frick everything up.
When hve companies not turned the costs of business onto consumers?
