SCOTUS trying to see middle of the road...

They give Trump/conservatives a win and then hand them a loss...give them a win, then hand them a loss.
Nothing to do with the Constitution...just trying seem impartial.
If they just followed the Constitution, liberals would be burning cities down.
Quite pathetic that they even take that into consideration.

I'm more than a little disappointed that we don't have rulings that would make this happen, but they're pivoting to a long game solution it would seem.

“Nothing to do with the Constitution...juat trying seem impartial.”
This is far from what I see when I review the opinions. For one thing, the justices vary a great deal with how they see the issues and clearly reflect deeply held beliefs about the constitution and jurisprudence. Which justices do you accuse of being in on the deal to fix results to seem impartial? Surely not Alito, Thomas, Sotomayor, Kagan, or Jackson. The truth is the results—which have often favored conservative positions—are arrived at by nine people who see things differently.

Roberts and ACB
Roberts as far back as Obama care. He is worried about how the court will look.
I would also argue they side with liberals on more consequential cases. For example, today birthright citizenship was clearly the biggest.

I watched the biography of Sandra Day O’Conner, and they openly discuss her having this strategy. The biographers and historians, of course, act like that was some sort of brilliant and nuanced approach. To me Gorsuch has been a very good SC justice. There have been a few cases I didn’t like his decision, but once he explains how he arrived there you have to give him credit.

They don’t want to court packed so they are riding the fence.
