The dems’ base will love the way they are acting but it won’t help them with the swing vote. I think it hurts them greatly.

Exactly. It may help with the base and some fundraising, but if they think this shite plays well with middle American independents and even moderate Dems, they are sadly mistaken.
If I was the RNC, I would hang this around every single red state Dem running. I'd basically force Manchin, Heiltkemp, and the like to either:
Public denounce their own party's behavior, or
Own it and face the backlash.
