The public effectively subsidizes the labor cost of companies like Walmart. Their wages are artificially low

This is also another Democrat talking point
But I get what you're saying. However, higher wages won't fix welfare spending. Removing welfare will fix welfare spending.
Removing welfare also would likely lead to a suppression in wages (which is fine by me, but not to Bessent/MAGA/Democrats)

The left needs to stop talking out of both sides of their mouth. You cant promote low end wage growth in the US while championing the welfare state and a tidal wave of imported slave-labor crap so the fat, over-leveraged middle class can have cheap shite. Get rid of the illegal labor under-class, clean up welfare, and promote domestic production using trade leverage. Yes, goods and services will cost more - but they will also be of higher quality and the people will have more job opportunities and make more money as the tax base grows.

I think the assumption you're making is the illegals displaced these workers.
Societal and economic change displaced them. They basically checked out in large numbers when they lost their highly inefficient (lucrative in their eyes) factory/union jobs.
How do I show this? There are tons of jobs paying more than the median wage for illegals out there, some can lead to actual careers (especially in the skilled trades, which are desperate for workers). We still have a huge demand for this labor and are begging these people to take the jobs (via crazy-high wages in some cases)...and they refuse.
How would removing illegals change THAT scenario, as these companies/trades are literally begging for workers when we have illegals?
Are the 10-15 million jobs illegals are performing necessary? In other words, if these workers found themselves in their home country tomorrow, would their employers need find new workers?
Where are employers going to find these new (replacement for illegals) workers?
To be clear, there is some fraction of this demand for labor that would *poof* with the supply of less than market pay labor heading south, but that wouldn't be a large enough fraction that would keep the obvious from happening.
Also, these lazy but able-bodied assholes that are content to sit on the sidelines on government dole; what would happen if you and I stopped feeding them?
What needs to happen is you and I (taxpayers) need to get out from between employers and employees, stop serving as some guarantee to employers that there'll always be cheap labor available and we'll pick up the tab, and also stop serving for able-bodied Americans as a guarantee of food and shelter. The first/easiest step in this process is deporting 10 million illegals.
