Schumer Launches Major Effort To Get Ahead Of Artificial Intelligence

So, here is a guy who has blocked EVERY Big Tech bill the past two and a half years who knows nothing about technology and is pushing for a bill on AI. We know Biden brought in some select Big Tech leaders to talk about it a few weeks ago (that did NOT include Elon Musk). To my knowledge NONE of them talked with tech security and privacy experts. In April, Microsoft changed their Privacy Policy that includes verbiage on AI.

I would not trust a bill that does not include Reps / Senators that have worked on tech bills specific to the individual liberty of U.S. citizens. That would be a small list that MAY include Rand Paul, Josh Hawley, Thomas Massie.

You had the scope of your distrust too narrowed. I fixed it for you.
When somebody does one of those "Can we all agree that...?" posts the answer never is "yes" but if someone framed one of those about Schumer being scum we might get close.

So now they'll probably push to limit the types of hardware we're allowed to have in personal computers.
Imagine a world where you have to register with the government to upgrade your GPU, or get licenses to run certain kinds of programs.
AI is a direct threat to the narrative. Thats the only reason someone like Schumer would be worried about it.

People need to do a 180 if Schumer is for something. He's a rude, crude, sneaky bastard.

Reminds me of Harry Reid. These old corrupt fricks can’t die fast enough. It’s odd the geriatrics in charge were fine during Covid.

I remember Tom Daschle
They can't find somebody worse
Then I remember Harry Reid
They can't find somebody worse
Now we have Schumer
How bad is the next one going to be?

So we will cripple what could be the biggest economic boom since the internet or industrial revolution, and watch china fly past us as an economic behemoth (and military), all so some fat fks in DC can get fatter and maintain control......same as it ever was.

Like something he might sponsor could do this:
""Time is of the essence to get ahead of this powerful new technology to prevent potentially wide-ranging damage to society and national security and instead put it to positive use by advancing strong, bipartisan legislation," Schumer said."

China is doing it, that's why Schumer wants it. The Chinese bill requires its AI to reflect core socialist values.

Someone is paying him somehow to do this. My short list would include countries that don't like us and have been paying the Bidens recently. Guys like Schumer do nothing but (a) push special interests that pay them, (b) things that get them reelected by poor uneducated voters that they pretend to help but are really probably beat down by the first group, his backers.

And therein lies the problem with a Schumer AI bill. His focus will be ensuring it meets the Radical Left agenda and the rest will be what is important. Then they will give it a name that has nothing to do what the bill actually does.

Instead of starting a new thread ... I'll just update this one ...

... surely there is at least one Republican intelligent enough to take the lead in the House.
... Just heard on Special Report that a House Subcommittee will be on the road to Nashville next week and this is expected to be part of the conversation. Do not see info about that online. Found this FN article about the topic, but not the meeting:

If Schumer is pushing this you can guarantee that one AI company has paid him to take out the others. That's how the DC grift works. Money begets power and power begets money.
Posted on 6/22/23 at 10:08 pm to Marcus Aurelius
The real reason Schumer is pushing for this is to have AI run interference with election narratives that will benefit the democrats.

Schumer and intelligence do not belong in the same sentence.
Posted on 6/22/23 at 10:35 pm to rhar61
That is a Schumer strongarm tactic to the AI folk that they had better pay up and get on board for the Dems...or else. It's always about the money and power for the Dems; they could care less about the people who work to earn the money and advance society.

The left can't afford to have an AI out there that doesn't support their narrative.
So what we will end up with is an AI that is trained to repeat their approved propaganda.
