We had a ban on exports silnce the OPEC nonsense in the 70s. In 2015 it was lifted but only because the gop had to agree to the "new spending deal" where nearly 2 trillion was wasted on nonsense, like 500 million to the UN for green funding.
Once lifted it enabled huge investment in the industry and we became the largest producers of energy in the world by far.
