The fact that they’re so emotionally fragile is why this silly phrase resonates at all

Boomers would be pretty worthless too if we didn’t have to teach you guys how to do everything past operating a typewriter. You guys wouldn’t even know how to turn on a computer. Boomers have been pretty productive at running up a bunch of debt and living beyond their means, I’ll give them that.

Goddamn it's amazing how a stupid phrase made by Gen Z causes so many on this board to get triggered

And an entire generation of dumbasses swallowed it, hook, line, and sinker.

You’ll have to forgive a bunch of impressionable teenagers for listening to their teachers.

Again, wtf are you talking about?

Boomers owned homes debt free, they actually paid their taxes and have been retired or dead the last 20 years.

You don't work with nor have ever worked with a Boomer most likely unless you're a nurse at an old folks home.

What the phrase is really attacking is Gen X or Millennials...basically anyone over 35 that is in your workplace.

If Millennials are saying this they're retarded.

And it makes sense that Gen Z is saying this. Just look at College Campuses; they feel more entitled and special than Millennials.

Uh, boomers hit the classrooms as teachers in the 70s.

I think everyone except Boomers are in agreement when it comes to what a drain on the economy and society Boomers have been. When they run off into the sunset with their Skechers on, we’ll all be better off.

I can’t imagine being so emotionally fragile that a simple two word phrase would trigger me like that. Saying it’s insubordination is just dumb. In that case, if someone at work calls me “son”, it’s a form of age discrimination and I should file a lawsuit.

Any boss or superior that does call you "son" is just a bad boss. It is a sign of disrespect and no boss worth their salt would call anyone "son". But respect is earned. If you show up like the world owes you something throwing out "ok, boomers", you get what you earn.

And show me a boss that is "emotionally triggered" by that term, and I'll show you a boss that has no respect from his employees. Dealing with bad employees and firing ones that subvert authority and create hostile work environments is part of the job, not discrimination.

Next time your boss asks you to do something, tell him "frick you, no" and see what happens.

You clearly don’t get it, which is why the phrase works so well.

No one who isn’t a shithead is going to respond to an earnest request for work done from a superior with “OK Boomer” or “son” or whatever and not do it. Maybe to banter but the work is going to get done. And if the person is a shithead, no one here is saying they don’t deserve to be fired.

The story in the OP specifically says that ANY such banter, even if followed by good faith completion of the task ordered, is per se grounds for disciplinary action because it would create a “hostile work environment” which leads to a lawsuit. That’s soft bullshite and anyone who is intellectually honest should be lampooning it.

If your employee is being a shithead and not doing their work, fire their arse. If they’re just bantering while they get it done right and you still have an issue with it, you’re the problem, not them.

I would certainly write up any of my staff that I caught saying this. It's extremely disrespectful. I won't have it in my org.

Firing someone for dismissing your stupid statement with "OK Boomer" is the most Boomer move I've ever heard.
would you reply “ok nig***” because you are disrespecting an individual . It’s no different. By saying “ok boomer” you are literally saying their opinion is discounted because of their age....how is that different from someone saying their opinion is discredited because of their race or sexually identity?

It’s not.

The Boomers I’ve worked with have been extremely condescending and have acted like their age gives them some kind of superiority, when in fact, they’re a drag on the workforce and much of our jobs are spent trying to teach them how to do theirs. I think “Ok boomer” is a perfectly appropriate response when they start spouting off about how important they are.
