Top Saudi intelligence officials close to Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman asked a small group of businessmen last year about using private companies to assassinate Iranian enemies
You really buy this?

Why are the domestic issues of the Saudis or a small foreign affair between Saudi Arabia and Turkey front page news in the United States?
That could get dicey real quick if SA’s oil exports get restricted.

Weird how they just started doing things like this.

Mr. Nader and Mr. Zamel enlisted Erik Prince, the former head of Blackwater and an adviser to the Trump transition team. They had already discussed elements of their plan with Mr. Prince, in a meeting when they learned of his own paramilitary proposals that he planned to try to sell to the Saudis. A spokesman for Mr. Prince, Marc Cohen, declined to give specifics about the meeting but said that Mr. Prince had no discussions with Saudis about assassinations.
In a suite on one of the top floors of the Mandarin Oriental hotel in New York, Mr. Zamel and Mr. Nader spoke to General Assiri and his aides about their Iran plan. The Saudis were interested in the idea but said it was so provocative and potentially destabilizing that they wanted to get the approval of the incoming Trump administration before Saudi Arabia paid for the campaign.
After Mr. Trump was inaugurated in January 2017, Mr. Nader met frequently with White House officials to discuss the economic sabotage plan.
I can’t keep up with all of the schemes these guys have been involved in.

So what do you want the US to do about it?

About MBS? Nader and Zamal?

They were obviously emboldened by the Trump election and just started killing each other in the Middle East for the first time in the history of the world

I think Congress will be looking sanction the regime if the Trump admin doesn't get their response together soon. I think there are enough Republican Senators that will want action if Trump refuses to do much. Stopping support for the Yemen war could be another lever.
I'm pretty sure that Nader is in the Mueller program now, not sure of Zamel's level of cooperation. Not worried about these guys.
Prince could have some complications ahead.

So why do we need to sanction these people for killing one of their own in their own embassy in Turkey?
Posted on 11/13/18 at 9:19 pm to upgrayedd
Sure it is. Rules-based international order. That's how we do it. You break the rules you pay.
You don't lure a Washington Post columnist into your embassy to kill them and not expect consequences.

What rules? That's still an ambiguous non-answer. Not that I'm expecting you to actually answer the question.

It's something you can google if you are not familiar with the concept.
