it's possible. the original bible had a serpent in the Adam/Eve sotry and it didn't represent Satan. that's likely the symbolic representation (misunderstanding of the original biblical texts by revisionist Christians, hence the "knowledge" statement)

Pertinence of that terribly butthurt hypothetical to the topic at hand?
Sorry that post hit close to home. I made a response to the ridiculous assertion that this country's belief in a Christian god is like a neighbor's faux-belief in Santa. I know you see examples of those very occurrences on this board and in the news every other day so it must be tough for you to defend all of that ignorance in the name of religion without getting butthurt. Prayers sent.

I'm gonna have to call you out on this. I just genuinely don't believe that you will be sending prayers.

I mean, I like you, I just really felt that I had to let him know that prayers probably aren't going to be sent.

Hope we can remain friends.

Your what?

. . . I rest my case.
You rest? That's pretty dumb.

While I may not believe in god, I have plenty of beliefs about other things. In particular, since I have a degree in physics, I have a lot of informed beliefs about cosmology. "Infinite existence of inanimate objects," or however you put it, does not describe those beliefs.

A fact is verifiable. (Water is wet is a fact)

A belief is unverifiable. (The Patriots will win next week is a belief)

Dude, do you even know the history of your own religion's text? Genesis vs Revelation, man. Which was written first? How long before the other was it written?

That's the entire point that's being made here, and you completely missed it.

Well I received my prayer from him. You didn't get yours? Hmm maybe you aren't friends after all.

An atheist bases things on facts.

A Christian bases things on beliefs.

Facts are verifiable. Beliefs are unverifiable.

it's splitting hairs, but that's not honest.
Wrong! What is not honest is claiming the choice of one thing or another is not a choice.

The argument that atheists are on the one hand a science-based group, and on the other are not remotely intellectually curious, is ridiculous.

Depends on the timeline.

Faith is trust prior to verification.

atheism is not a religion nor is it a belief. why is it that christians try to put non-believers on the same level as christianity?

I know Revelator's deal. I have to admit, for someone with beliefs as extreme and unsettling as his, he does his best to state his position in a respectful and honest way. I admire that. Totally unlike S.E.C. Crazy, Redbone, and the their ilk.

Rev would likely say that, to him, Revelations is the revealed Truth. Thus, the fact that it came way after genesis and just happens to connect a snake (hands down the most reviled creature by humans to begin with) and Satan, is of little importance. Truth is Truth and the author's motives need not be questioned because he believes it is more than a man-made, drug-addled rant.

Rev, if I'm wrong, feel free to correct me.

Because militant and evangelical atheists exist? It's a mindset elevated to a religion for some. You can hold firm to a semantic position if you like, but practically speaking atheism is certainly "religion-like" for a lot of folks.
