It is, in the very strictest definition, an atheist. But to say that that's the default view of the human race is to ignore literally the entire history of the human race. Humans sort of naturally believe in some deity or deities.

I think this is a product of our natural pattern-seeking inclination. I don't think the belief in gods is something that is inherent or instinctual--it's more of a by-product of our base instincts.

Law is a man made construct to regulate society, and as such is the interpretation of what society deems in terms of guilty or not guilty, and not in facts or beliefs.

There is never a definitive black or white in legal interpretation.

Now I'll wait for someone to call me a racist...

This isn't a conversation about faith. It's about laws.

If you put up a statue of one thingamajig, you have to put up another statue of a thingamajig because the law cannot favor one over another.

It has nothing to do with God, gods, G-d, or fish.

Yes, but then how could a baby be said to be an atheist. They merely "lack" belief in God. A lacking of a belief cannot be a belief in respect to something for it is a mere lack of belief. If you want to say the baby believes that God does not exists then it holds a belief and does not merely lack belief. I might be misreading you. If so I apologize.

That's why I argued much earlier in this thread that people shouldn't lump in all atheists together, like they're a bloc.

Agreed on this point.

It is this strict definition that I have issue with. Now if one wanted to change it slightly to say that an atheist is someone who has the potential to believe yet still lacks that belief then I would be fine with that. However I would think that rules out babies. For example say someone is born stranded from society. As a baby they should not be considered an atheist. However when they grow up still away from society they reflect on nature. They come to the conclusion that this reality did not come to be by an intelligent mind, but simply is all there is for there is no evidence of a mind. I would say this person is an atheist, for even though they have the potential for belief in theism they still lack it.
So is a newborn infant a Christian, a Muslim, a Buddhist? A theist?

How else would you describe a baby except as, "not having a belief in gods"? That's exactly what atheism means.

Like I said, it's almost entirely meaningless to call a baby an atheist. It's true, but it's not useful at all. It's like calling a baby "not a supporter of Ron Paul". Well, no shite.

That's exactly the definition of atheism.

The prefix "a-" means "without".

The root "theism" means "belief in a god or gods".

Atheism means "without belief in a god or gods" -- that's it. Anything more than that requires modifiers, like "strong atheist" or "gnostic atheist".

This is one of the dumbest things posted in this thread and there is lots to choose from. You can no more prove that there is no God than I can produce evidence that he exist. You operate under the presumption that what you believe or don't believe is true. That is faith.

Whenever someone starts a response by hurling an insult, you have struck a chord.

Atheist bases decisions on what is observable.

You believe in things that are not observable.

Make me believe otherwise...

Okay but I'm not sure what that has to do with the derailed thread of discussion we're on? This thread has gotten way off topic.

Wrong again. You are actively rejecting Jesus and will be punished eternally for it. Next time Jesus shows up at the foot of your bed in the middle of the night, listen to what the man has to say rather than shush him and show him the door. God damn heathens up in here.

Or maybe the statement was simply dumb. That's an option too you know.

One can't disprove God by observable things.

Are the other two God and the Holy Spirit?

I do and unashamedly so. And FT knows this so I'm wondering why he is wanting me to provide him with a definition of faith?

I've done some research on Satanism and it's pretty interesting and is not the Devil worshipping religion it is portrayed to be.

Basically it is an offshoot of Atheism with a title. You worship and elevate yourself above all others, while using Satan as the symbol of your beliefs since he elevated himself above God.

Regardless, the statue is badass

Yes. They should have been wearing name tags and had a glowing presence about them.

I am not trying to prove or disprove anything to anyone. Hey knock yourself out with your Bible and chant in your megaphone (that is my belief of what you do during Mardi Gras).

God does not exist to me because there is nothing observable to verify he exists.

The end...

They were wearing name tags, but the lettering looked those characters on the atomic bracelet from the Predator movies.
