I'm sure this law will be strictly enforced, but if you are in this country illegally and addicted to heroin, the city will provide you with free syringes to shoot up on the street.

They can't ban a traveler connecting in their airport from having a refillable plastic bottle. They'll get challenged in court the first time someone contests that ban.

I bet you can take a crap out on the tarmac, though.

Like a dream of Jules Verne - everything made out of metal.

Great job, SF!

I hate single use plastic and how it is such a big part of our lives.

I also hate every level government.

Tough spot.

Do they know you can reuse plastic water bottles?

I do it all the time, even our dedigned reusable bottles at home are plastic.

The level of stupidity of these govt bodies and citizens is ridiculous.

No, only water bottles. In the article, one guy tweeted, the message is drink more soda, 'cause that's what people will do, instead of packing a metal water bottle to fill up at a water station.

So, plastic reusable waters are banned by this, too?

I'm curious. Why?

Plastic is just a waste product of fuel production. No one is drilling for oil to produce plastic. We produce for energy demand. So if we don't use the plastic... it will just end up being landfilled anyway (though probably in a less stable and more environmentally risky form).

Maybe I'm missing somethign?

I don’t like using a plastic spoon for 1 minute at lunch and then having it exist in the landfill effectively forever.

I also don’t like the energy used to create, ship, and market said plastic spoon.

They aren't proposing to do that, it is just banning the sale of them inside of the airport
