San Diego schools district goes Anti-racist

The ol' let's lower standards since blacks aren't as good as whites bigotry.

Black people don't have have access to calendar and clocks.

This is exactly what my school district is already doing.
Welcome to clown world. Here is what we have:

1) Black Lives Matter as the first words on the school Theory of Action statement

2) Breakup white supremacy practices on the statement also

3) Standards based grading. Show that you know material at subjective standard at anytime is all that matters. Cumulative efforts are minimized. Performance minimized.

4) 50% grades given for any F work or missing work. Again, missing work is 50%.

5) retakes for all tests and no grade penalties for late work turned in

6) Teaching staff must show progress in being anti racist in their classes

7) class attendance does not matter for grading. They don't need to be there and the teacher must find ways to catch them up.


I cannot stand most of this.

This to me is a race to the bottom.

I bet every one of those school board members are white.

These three on their own aren’t awful. I had a class in high school that had a 50% minimum grade floor on all assignments. Of course my school was filled almost entirely with students who were really good self starters who saw basically a 50 as horrendous as a 0 so this wasn’t a problem in placating laziness.

Another high school in my town was an alternative school that didn’t care about attendance. But if you failed you failed. So show up if you want or don’t but you’re responsible for your own ultimate success. That actually teaches kids to manage their time on their own when regular high school students sort of have that done for them.

Retakes don’t bother me because you should be allowed to better yourself and if they want to incorporate that into the grades then it encourages a student who failed to circle back and get it right. If you can’t do a retake then if you fail you basically are not incentivized at all to circle back and relearn. I guess it could lessen the stress to get it right the first time which in the real word can typically be the only shot you get.
