russian hackers Hijack Bluesky Accounts to Spread Disinformation

NYT: Hijacked accounts include those of people who are “influential in their fields, though perhaps not famous,” like journalists and professors.
Bluesky has removed up to 2,000 such posts since they began appearing in waves in April, citing the company and Clemson University researchers.
The Clemson researchers, along with a group of internet monitors called the dTeam, linked the posts to the "Social Design Agency", a company based in moscow. The Independent has contacted Bluesky for comment.
Clemson also connected the hacking campaign to a kremlin influence operation that involves spreading fake news articles appearing to come from legitimate news organizations. This tactic aims to promote false claims by having fact-checkers debunk them, thereby amplifying the disinformation. The "Social Design Agency" did not respond to a request for comment.
The hackers targeted Bluesky users considered influential in their fields, including journalists, professors, a pollster, an anime artist, and a Hollywood filmmaker. The filmmaker's account was used to post a video in which artificial intelligence made it appear that a “Canadian police official was criticizing French President Emmanuel Macron”.

I've BEEN on BS with an account. Trust me when I tell you that the hijacking of accounts almost certainly will result in more moderate political messages.

Social Media Weaponization: The Biohazard of Russian Disinformation Campaigns
Russia has a long history of seeking to project power and influence while playing with a technological and geopolitical handicap. Given its history and a geographic location with many bordering nations, it sees itself as constantly besieged from all sides, but particularly by the West.
Without equivalent conventional military might, Russia has turned to other asymmetric advantages to compensate in its competition with the United States. Social media has provided a unique tool kit to manipulate narratives and amplify societal divisions in an effort to weaken the United States in ways previously unimaginable. While Russian weaponization of information is not new the intersection of Russian disinformation, public health crises, and vulnerability to bioevents presents new and troubling homeland and national security threats for the United States.
The United States is diverse, pluralistic, and democratic. These characteristics, its founding principles, are also its strengths as a nation. But to U.S. adversaries, including Russia, they are potential weaknesses to exploit. One strategic goal of Russia’s influence operations is to weaken the United States and its allies.

Many are absolutely fricking nuts. I was compelled to leave a couple of days after CKs assassination. The comments were vile beyond my gut's capacity for black bile.
But if I have to summarize in a word: frightening.

This happens on pretty much every large social media platform. I don't think that people realize the scope of other nations using the internet and social media as a weapon to try and weaken America. Its so easy for them too. And its a fraction of the cost, and much "cleaner" than other methods of attack. American's are oblivious and don't think critically enough to realize this.

If communists win this battle, and USA falls - all democratic world is done. We Can Not Let This Happen.
