Onumbness needs to shut down Russia's nuclear program now. He has clearly lost control of Russia.

It sounds like we'd be in WW3 if the poliboard were running the country.

The only people getting played by Putin are the ones praising him and demanding "tough action" in an effort to help their own political party.

Short game, I get. Putin wins either way. If America shows force then he can use it to rally anti-America sentiment in Russia and get better support towards empire building. If America stays low key then Republicans bash Obama and Putin gets good publicity.

Long game: Who knows. It seems like the wrong direction for Russia and Eastern Europe.

Ukraine, Cuba, nuclear subs in the Gulf, and now a test firing of an ICBM...Putin is signaling the world as well as Obama about his intentions.

Does Obama have a play left on the chess board, or has he already been defeated?

Oh come the frick on.

He's flexing muscle. That's it for the most part. Please, please tell me what Putin's intentions are.

Exploiting a weak position the US holds due to the inability to enact sanctions on Russia and exploiting the social and governmental upheaval in Ukraine.

His end game could be control of Ukraine but that doesn't have a bunch of benefits other than controlling a lot of land that has Russian pipelines running through it and a little better position within the Black Sea.

He doesn't have a bunch to gain from taking Ukraine IMO.

lol, do you really believe the man who used the wrong side of history line on a geopolitical standoff is playing the long game strategically?

Jesus, it's like you people haven't watched Obozo get abused on simple situations like Syria already.

but this time...he's playing the strategery...

Putin wants to get the band back together for a Soviet Union reunion tour and he's finally at a point to do it. As an ex KGB I think he has sized up the situation correctly in that the US citizens have war fatigue and Obama doesn't have the backbone to buck the pressure

His advisors probably are. This isn't chess. Then again, some people on this board have outright said that they know more about the situation than the white house does, so frick me.

May as well abolish the CIA and replace it with tigerdroppings.com

To be fair, it was scheduled prior to this Ukraine mess.

So were the plans for building a bridge to Crimea, but I do find it interesting that the incursion/invasion of the Crimea, the ICBM launch and the passage and signing of funding for a bridge to the Crimea all took place in the same week.

it has been widely reported Obozo thinks he knows more than everyone...including his advisors. A narcissistic clown, and you think he listens?

Hitler started by taking the Sudenenland which was the german speaking area of Czechoslovakia in 1938 because they were being persecuted by the czech government. He was given permission by Nevil Chamberlain. These things always start out small and esculate.

He is inept, but in this case that may be a good thing. I don't want to send troops in harms way unless we are in imminent danger.

If Russia does something shitty then that's on Russia, not Obama (i.e. America). America is not directly responsible for every action of every shitty ruler int he world. Why is that so hard to understand?

Good god.

I don't want troops either....What you fail to realize is, like chess, mate was nade severak moves before it all happens.

like Obama, you.think you're watching checkers. The current situation is a monument to his international failure.

This goes beyond Obama, but he has made some serious missteps.

The first chess move we should have made was to tap as many oil and gas resources as we can to not be reliant on foreign oil and gas, and hopefully get Europe off Russian O & G.

But that move was needed many years ago.

Correct.

Huh? I guess you tried to deflect with some sort of technical gotcha, but "If" is the correct word to use in that context. You live in America. Learn the language.

This talking point has been repeated enough times that it has become worn out.

It's called saber rattling. We just don't have any sabers to rattle and Putin does.

But Putin has made his point and pulled out. It's a moot discussion.

Really when did this happen? He stopped planned exercises of 150,000 troops on the border, but the 16,000 troops are still in Crimea

Stuff like this worries me. I fear we are seeing the beginning of something bigger.

Curious what happens when N.Korea, China, Cuba, Iran, etc all decided to flex their muscles in similar ways. I truly hope this is as bad as this thing gets.

Most if not all of those troops are permanently stationed at leased Russian military bases in Crimea.
