Sounds like as of now, they don't believe any Americans were on board, but they are double checking people with dual citizenship.

I think they would. Plus you don't have at this time MA confirming anything on the passenger list. They will not say any nationality. Some countries have said they believe they had citizens on board but no country is giving numbers.

From updated CNN article:
Vice President of Malaysia Airlines Europe Huib Gorter told reporters that the 15 crew members on Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 were all Malaysian nationals.
He gave a breakdown of the known nationalities of the 280 passengers: 154 were Dutch, 27 were Australians, 23 were Malaysians, 11 were Indonesian, six were from the United Kingdom, four were from Germany; four were from Belgium, three were from the Philippines and one was Canadian. Authorities were still trying to determine the nationalities of the other passengers.

So now waiting for all of the people in this thread that said Obama was a horrible leader for not changing his day because Americans were dead to admit they were wrong...

I despise Obama as much as anyone. Maybe more than a lot of people. But it's absurd to place any blame on him for this. He has to have intelligence info and actual facts before he can act.
If it comes out that Russia did shoot the plane down, something needs to be done. Phone calls and red lines are making a mockery of this country. And I'm not only talking about Russia. It's almost like no one respects the United States anymore. Our allies can't count on us, the Middle East is in more turmoil than usual (which says a lot), our borders are being invaded, and several planes have been shot down in the area of Russia / the Ukrane in the last week or so.
We don't have to go to war to keep those fricktards in their place. They used to fear a response from the US. They don't anymore. This country is in desperate need of a leader, and we just don't have that now. Everyone in the world can see how pathetic POTUS is.
The next few days will mean a lot, IMO. If it comes out that Russia did shoot the plane down and there were Americans on it, we have to respond. If we keep backing down, the illegal chirren won't be our only problem.
Oh, and I'm never flying Malaysia airlines.
